Default Connection Speed?

Just wondering if anyone knew the connection speed to the Host Gator servers. Do they cap the speed ?

I've recently noticed my FTP upload speed go down from over 100 kb/s to less than 20 kb/s.

The main home page also takes over 1.3 seconds to load when it used to pop open instantly. (less than .2 seconds).

Is something up with the connection the servers are receiving, or did they get capped off?

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure it isnt a problem with your internet? i think all the servers are capped at 10mbps (not sure if thats just the dedi servers or the shared & reseller server)

It's not my connection, I was running a proxy script that gave a speed test from multiple locations throughout the world.

It seems to be fine now, but during peak hours it seems to slow, I was just wondering if Host Gator started to use bandwidth throttling, But i guess the slowdowns are from the shear traffic volume.

It could be the distance between yourself and the servers. not necesarily the servers being busy... Yes I admit it could be a possibility but not really the case. Mine only goes to about 400kbytes a second max. It's mainly cause I'm around 3000 - 5000 miles away from the servers.

It's not so much the download speed, as I can clock a consistent 300+ kb/s
But the upload speed is fairly slow IMO (around 20 kb/s with little Burst's of about 75-100 kb/s)

Why is there such a difference between the upload speed and the download speed?

It's the huge latency to dallas-- 199ms is a very, very large ping.
