Default configuring Sql Yog

Is there a particular place, like on cpanel, where I would find out what host address i would put in the Mysql Host Address field ?

I'd like to use sqlyog to adminster my database on my H.G. account.

Thank you

If the script is running on the server you would use localhost as the MySQL host in your scripts.

Thanks, I mis-explained myself though. I know about the localhost, but what about, the address that you use when you want to use a windows client program.
Not sure what to put in the Mysql host address field as seen below. Localhost won't work in this case.

Use the connection string information found on the screen in the cPanel mySQL manager...you must create a user for the database, and the connection strings for either localhost or the other way will then be listed under the database's name.

if you need to remotely connect to your DB on hostgator server, you must

1). Add your IP to allowed host list from cpanel--->mysql-->Remote Database Access Hosts

2). Re-add the user to DB from above location.

then retry to connect.

Thanks.
Gghpk, if I don't see the Remote Database Access Hosts section in the "MySQL Account Maintenance" page, is there another place to go?

I do have an i.p. address appear in the Access Hosts section with a i.p. number: 111.111.1.%

In the above example, I'm using 1's instead of the real number, but the last section of numbers is replaced with a percent sign.

Not sure what to do with that. Maybe due to my low-end hosting account, I don't have the Remote Database Access Hosts section.

It would be worth opening a ticket to ask support to look into it. Sometimes the port is closed on the server and needs to be opened.

MySQL seems to be working fine. I can access it through cpanel, phpmyadm, and scripts that are run on the server. But I cannot now access it remotely using SQLyog .. which I have been doing for years. I have unchanged versions of SQLyog enterprise on two computers .. no change to anything yet neither now work with my HostGator MySQL accounts. Updated to a later version of SQLyog. No joy. Went into phpmyadm and added a new test database and a new user. Works from within phpmyadmin or from php scripts run on the server .. still no joy with remote access using SQLyog. Took a good look at Access Hosts -- I am coming to my hostgator server from a static ip -- and this looks fine in the Access Hosts list. Appears that mysql works correctly when accessed locally; now does not work with remote access. It was working using SQLyog with saved configurations on two different pcs behind my static ip that is in Access Hosts; now its not allowing the connection. Read the support blogs that basically suggested I do what I had already done. Using x.x.x.x (correct ip) and port 3306. Error message is "Can't connect to MYSQL on x.x.x.x" Bottom line 1) mysql works locally; 2)used to work remotely; 3) now it doesn't. Any advice please, and thanks ..... Mike

Suggest submitting a support ticket to support at hostgator dot com.

Did contact support. Got a quick and accurate response.

Turns out they are now protecting that port at the firewall level.

A very good thing from a security standpoint of course.

Since I have a static ip it was easy for them to resolve my problem when I am working from this ip; don't know how they'd resolve it if I used a dynamic ip.
