I've been shopping for a web host and decided to go with HostGator. BUT...I have a compatibility question first. I am using Dreamweaver MX 2004 on a Win2000 machine, and the doc says, "You can use Dreamweaver to build web applications using any of five server technologies: ColdFusion, ASP.NET, ASP, JSP, or PHP. ". I take it that if I go with HostGator I'd have to use PHP only. If so, what can I use as a local server when I'm developing and testing the application? Dreamweaver doc talks about installing locally ColdFusion or IIS. Being a newbie to this all, I'm a little confused and want to make sure I can setup a local development environment that will translate over correctly to your HostGator environment when I promote the app to production.
Can you help? Ruth |

Hi,
have a look at phpdev . To quote from the website .. phpdev is a bundle of PHP/Apache/MySQL/PERL/phpMyAdmin/PHP-GTK preconfigured to run \\\'out of the box\\\' on the win32 platform. I've used it on Win XP and it's been fine. Cheers Ian |

JSP and ASP are available for a small fee per month. I don't know about ColdFusion though.

ASP & JSP are free when you have a Swamp account. If you are a reseller, they are $5 and $8 per month respectively.
Our servers do not support ColdFusion. The Linux Chilisoft ASP and will not work with Microsoft Access or MSSQL databases nor with any ASP.NET programs. |
