Okay, HostGator is my third webhost in 4 years....hopefully this is my final one.

I just wanted to vent and post a quick comparison with my previous webhosts that were Pair and 1and1.

I currently run approx 10 websites on a shared hosting plan, most of them with minor traffic but some of them has decent amount of traffic so the host makes a difference.

First of all, I am very pleased with HostGator but there have also been some issues that I want to address.

I moved to HostGator because 1and1 couldn't accomodate my requests, the features were very limited and customer service sucked. HostGator seemed to be my perfect solution. I have been quite happy here at HostGator, the support has been great and the features and costs are just perfect. But lately I've been very disappointed with the server speed and the server being bogged down in the middle of the day. During the last month I think my server has been down more often than during a whole year at 1and1. This is a problem because I was going to move up to a Reseller Plan and host other companies websites but I'm not sure I will do that anymore.

HostGator
Pros: excellent support, cheap hosting, great features
Cons: server speed and downtimes

1and1
Pros: cheap registration, cheap hosting, ease of use, server never down
Cons: very limited feature addons, customer service sucks.

Pair
Pros: excellent support, server speed, server never down
Cons: only con is price

As for now, HostGator is still my best solution but if the servers don't become more reliable I will move.

We believe we solved your servers slowness issue. There was a site on your server that was causing random slowness issues. We have moved the site and have not seen any problems since. If you notice any more problems with it, please e-mail me at brent@hostgator.com.

Fast speed and great uptime is our most important goal, every now and than a server has a problem site that is hard to trace down. all it takes is one problem script running for a minute, every few hours to make the hooting unreliable.
