Or, as the French say, "Comment allez-oop?" Unlike many (most) here, I don't know beans about designing sites, and I'm sure there are a lot of ways I could improve mine --- which, admittedly, is pretty much a QAD (quick and dirty) job done to get up and running with many promises to self to come back and fix this and that. http://justapipe.com
Thanks for any input. -- john <mahaffy@justapipe.com> |

I like it. Are you going to add some info about pipes 2 and 3? Pipe 1 made interesting reading.
BTW wasn't 'allez-oop' the King of the Jungle Jive? |

Drawn with a kind-of square face. That's a few years ago . . . in what has become "the good old days." Glad you liked the board. Thank you.

nice site and nice pictures
![]() I just notice there is some inconsistency in terms of file formats. They are almost all jpg but there are some png. You should use the png for high quality images (for example when one click and wants to see the big picture) and jpg for the smaller pictures. Or use always jpgs ![]() jpg - compresses files throwing information out. It's good for the web because of it's small files in size. png - lossless format, which means compression without losing any information. Big file size. Vt.

Thanks, vtrain. We use your program in homeschooling our kids in Latin, by the way (IF you're THAT vtrain), and I recommend it wherever I can; neat tool. Good point about the pix --- I discovered that if I manipulate them in any way, there's no clicking for the larger size. I suppose that's a duh, but now I know. I s'pose these days, with everyone but me on cable at least, file compression isn't the essential it once was. But from Vermont to Texas at anything from 30-some bytes to 2 Kb per . . . I imagine I could live with replacing the pix one at a time. Again, thanks.

Hi Mahaffy....
Maybe get some alt image tags in. And put some more info into your metatag desciption, like mention pipes, and wood and stuff. Ditto for your keywords metatag. And chuck some H1 and H2 tags on your headings, the searchies love that. Also, put your title tag right under <head>, the searchies love that too. Nice pipes dude, would not mind one of them meself you know? Cheers Kim "about to be ex-baby croc" Carter

Kim, you're gonna send me back to school. At my age, too. Well, we gotta, we gotta. OK, kid, I'll figure it out -- that's what the web's for, anyway. Thanks for the comments. (Come back in a month or two; there should be some pipes for sale by then.)

Hey Mahaffy... "at my age".... and "ok kid"
I feel young again, I feel young again. God, I could almost start singing... When I said that I wouldn't mind one of your pipes, I mean to replace the briar I lost about 30 years back, dropped the bugger over the side of a boat half way between godnosewhere and shitcreek. Glad my comments were of some assistance.... I liked the pipes site or I would not comment... I look forward to seeing the pipes for sale on the site. Gimme a hoy when they are up, maybe I'll be your first online sale? Cheers from what is now a very hot and sunny island

Have a friend who married a Thai girl --- Ernie and Wilwon Claughton. Ernie keeps going back, suspect he's gonna retire there and live like a king. Maybe you know him --- he loves to talk.

Well, you're all very nice. I've been using Serif's "Web Plus," which is made for newbies like me . . . but when kimbot said I should plug in some tags and such, I started looking at what I was actually uploading to my site, and I found that I've been putting up what must be a lot of bogus hotspots simply by clicking on different spots of my pages. Figured out how to make them visible so they could be deleted, and hopefully the result is at least some cleaner html (program-generated) code. (I'm guessing, of course; I don't know anything about it except in a very general way.) So now the next step is to do a little planning and thinking, and then retro in the tags and H1/H2s (suppose these are heading level tags? I was a typesetter in a previous lifetime). Another step is to pay back in visits to your sites. Thank you all; I feel reassured.

Hi Mahaffy
There are a lot of Farangs living here (Farang is Thai for Foreigner). Mostly the blokes are married to Thai ladies and vis-a-vis. It ain't such a bad place to live as an expat, I can think of worse ;-) Yup, the H1, H2, H3 etc tags are heading tags. In a document model it allows you to "collapse" a document logically. Several important search engines look for these tags and check for keywords in them. The heading tags are also very useful for screen text readers as they allow you to set the page out in logical areas, the text reader looks for that and both breaks at the heading tag and vocally emphasised the text in there. Same goes for the long description tag for images, the alt text tag is good but limited to a few characters. The long description tag lets you put in a full description of the image. Great for people with vision impairment as any browser that can read you the text will read the long description to the user as well. cheers:::::::

Hey, Kim.
Thanks for the added info; looks like I have some homework to do, but I get the drift. Looks, too, as though I need to be a little more methodical, add some description to secondary pages, etc.Well, summer's here, the kids are out of school (which means their Mom and me, too). So . . . bite the bullet, mahaffy, and don't do a half-assed job of it. Thanks again, -- john |
