I have no idea how many of you guys have any interest in Macromedia Cold Fusion, but personally I have been very pleased with hostgator (after bouncing from host to host) and have used them for about a year or so in different projects.
Back to the point... I really hate that I need to have another hosting account with another company so I can have cold fusion on the server. I do a lot of cold fusion development and prefer it over PHP for many reasons. Any chance you guys will ever be able to add cold fusion to the servers or as an add-on or something? Also, does anyone know from experience of a reliable/cheap cold fusion host? I've used http://www.hostek.com for coldfusion, and have looked at this place http://www.webair.com but am skeptical since they are now offering "'unlimited bandwidth" which we all know is bs. Anyways would rather use hostgator if they offered it, just looking for any help. |

I third that motion. Coldfusion server would be fantastic. Unfortunatly I would think that It would be unlikely, since it is a commercial software and they have around 30 servers...
Still it would be a fantastic addon to the service. There would also have to be a different database server as well. |

Funny that - I also asked them for this when I signed up - and I too have to get my ColdFusion hosting elsewhere (I used hostnexus.com). In any case, I would love to get my CF hosting from HG, it would make my life easier and I can trust HG.
I dont use it myself but I have a client which brings me a lot of clients which he designs with CF. |

I just had a client email me tonight, asking if I could host his brother's site, which was done in ColdFusion. I'll call him tomorrow and let him know, at the present time, I can't. Hosting is an ancillary service to our design business.
It would be great for HostGator to add ColdFusion support. David Digital Graphics Design |

The current servers do not appear to meet the system requirements for Cold Fusion. The operating systems for which it is available are limited. This means that if ColdFusion were implemented, you would have to have the site moved to a ColdFusion server and pay a per site fee. I have no idea if they are even considering this, these are just my observations.

I'm glad to see this topic appear here.
ColdFusion would definetly be something to look forward to should it become a service here on HostGator. As listed, it would be similiar (If ever) to our ASP and JSP procedures, whereas accounts requiring that would most likely be relocated to that system itself. Although not on our table at the moment, we've actively kept track of ColdFusion and do entertain requests from those seeking it's addition to our services. Should you have a strong desire and need for this service, we welcome your feedback to sales@hostgator.com and will surely keep your request on record. The more interest we see on an item such as this, the more we try to bring it live! |

Well I do hope it comes out - though I hope its not too expensive, if it is, might as well just get a CF reseller package somewhere else.

I would also like to know what, if anything is going on?
Though I would also like to mention that if HG does implement Microsoft based solutions ([REAL] ASP, MsSQL and of course, though not an MS product, it requires windows if I am not mistaken - ColdFusion); I would like to see HostGator offering, for example, ColdFusion reseller packages and not a 'monthly fee' to move a client to their CF server. |

If hostgator start offering Cold Fusion, I will make money!
It is quite popular around where I lived but they are all small business with one server or two and it is not stable at all so customer are really pulling on my shirt to offer Cold Fusion. It is pricy to run a Cold Fusion server since the licence are pretty expensive and that is is usually run on a Windows server OS. I am developping CF appliaction for the University that I work at now and it is pretty powerfull. I like it a lot. |

I think for HG to dive into CF would be the stupidest move ever. I think they should stick with what they have right now and not attempt to learn an entire new section of the industry.
As we've seen HG's poor planning in the past (lack of dedicated servers for the past few months and the entire bandwidth upgrade issue) this would simply pull away resources from areas where they are currently needed. |

Good point kmaw but not stupid.
Hostgator got excellent knowledge of what they do presently and I am sure they would get a SysAdmin that knows CF and Windows server and not just try to learn everything while getting clients on the new service for CF.

I agree, it would only be a 'stupid move' if it (the addition of CF servers) was executed and planned 'stupidly'.

Right... and in my opinion, it probably would be.
