None of the statistics pages on my site (or the bandwidth usage counter on the front page of the control panel) have updated in about 4 days. What's going on?

Maybe no visters have been to your site, or their's a software problem. I'm not sure.

I know there are visitors, they show up in the "latest visitors" thingy.

Also, the date clearly says it's been updated on the 6th. IT's gotta be a software problem.

I've been noticcing it's been gradually taking longer and longer between each update, but it's never come close to 4 days. Does someone do this manually or is it automatic?

Also, is there some way I can force the webalizer program to run?

I went through the documentation but I was unable to find anything for updating stats manualy. From what I can guess, I think it does it every time you look at it. If this is true, then it could be something on your end. I wouldn't have the slightest clue, cookies? However, if say cron or something simular to cron updates the list say at 12:00AM EST, then purhaps the cron/cron-like program has been disabled by some stroke of bad luck. Try going to any other computer and see if you can see updated stats. If you can, we can isolate the problem, however, if you do see the stats, then we are back to square one.

I tried another web browser, it has a different set of cookies. It didn't work.

I checked the cron jobs. None are listed. Should I add one? I tried adding "webalizer."

Heh, I was just going to mention this too. My stats and bandwidth haven't updated since 6th July either, so I guess it must be the software on a server.

Okay, now that that's confirmed, lets see if we can't isolate the problem. No, the stats won't appear in any cron jobs as Cpanel wouldn't want people to take that off then complain about problems. That's assuming that it uses cron.

Do you think CPANEL can help us at all in this matter?

From my [in]experience, I'd say it's not a C-Panel issue but a matter of the statistical analysis programs not being executed on time. Those programs (webalizer, etc.) and independant of CPanel and simply feed information to it; CPanel is not responsable, CPanel takes what information it has an converts it into HTML and PHP docs for you to work with. The problem is webalizer etc. aren't running and therefore the info that CPanel is accessing is out of date.

This could also be a problem with the system logging daemons not executing, or even producing a corrupt file. I know that once before I go corrupt file entries in my filesystem and I had to backup my files and run a special file allocation table reconstruction tool that was on my Redhat rescue disk.

(I'm using Reiserfs.)

But I'm just guessing based on info from a user's perspective.. Does this sound about right?

Hmm, a possiblity could also be that the dates have been reset. Eg. someone resets the BIOS, all of a sudden the server doesn't know what day it is, and can't produce valid results.

Do you personally have access to the machines, directly or indirectly with root and\or superuser login?

Webalizer isn't a great tool. There is nothing to fix it will correct itself eventually. It doesn't run for eveyrone at the same time as everyone joins a server at different times, and has different stats. It runs on a per person. Because its not the best monitoring tool it wont be correct all the time and it will fall into a state of sleep every now and then for a while.

We should be ditching webalizer completely in the next 2 weeks, and switching out to Urchin. Urchin is the best and will solve all the problems people see with webalizer.

Good, then nothing is wrong with the server, and it's just the program itself. Heh, heh, heh, BIOS

But aren't there multiple programs at work here? There's webalizer, but there is also that bandwidth counter ont he fron page of the control panel, and the analog statistics.

They haven't updated either.

Yeah, my bandwidth stats seems to run with the Webalizer updates as well along with that Analog stat. Can't wait to get this thing thrown out. Can we get Urchin installed any faster?

I've noticed the coutner on the front page usually updates itself every few hours wether webalizer runs or not.

Is everything still being tracked?

The Webalizer kicked in the new stats for me this afternoon. It tracked all the stats since it last updated on July 9th. My bandwidth moved according to the last count it had on July 9th.

Still hasn't worked for me yet.

Is there really no way to force it?? Can I like, log in to the server with SSH into my account and run webalizer?

I tried logging in with SSH but it says shell access is disabled on my account. Can ya'll enable it for me?

Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but my stats haven't updated since the 19th, and it's very important for me because I monitor my bandwidth daily.

~ Any resolution on a new stats product or manual control over when it's run?

Thanks.

roniabirk-

Have you managed to get accurate stats yet? Also, you may be pleased to know that AwStats will be installed on all servers within a months time. (if all goes well)

My stats did finally update themselves last time, but I am noticing a lag again the last few weeks. There was a 3-day span where they hadn't updated, and now it's been since yesterday at noon (almost 24 hours). Some would say 24 hours isn't a big time span, but my concern is when it goes over that. What if it stretches to 48 hours as it has done in the past. I am getting leery of that every time I check and it hasn't been updated.

How goes the progress of getting a statistics product that we can update from within the control panels? An old host of mine had it set up that way, and it was with Webalizer, so I am not sure the limitations w/ CPanel that keep it from working here. Of course, they weren't that great of a host or I'd still be there, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like the convenience of better control on my stats. With bandwidth being such a big issue, it would help me a lot to be able to control when my stats are updated instead of just hoping it will happen sooner rather than later.
