Howdy,

I've got this PHP directory script running on two domains (dirsites.net + dirsites.com) they both run off of a remote MySQL database who on turn is also used by another mirror site (http://seu-website.com/dirsites/). In summary all three domains are exact mirrors of each other in terms of the directory engine as well as the database they access.

The script has an administration login form through which (duh!) you access the admin functions.

Now the problem, on a semi regular basis over the last week or so I had noticed some strange and erratic behaviour when logging into the admin section at either of the domains on hostgator this ranged from simple timeouts to just non-responsiveness (no timeout error msg but no success at loging as if the form content were not posted)

Now the problem seems to be permanent with two error messages, interestingly at the other webhost things work 100% and loging in through the admin form is not a problem.

I have scanned through the program code and found absoluteley no reference to session.save_path (in the error msgs below) so I'm leaning towards this being some sort of server issue, true? Naturally I checked and have ample space left on my domain as well as bandwidth.

I have experienced the error both with IE and Mozilla (Firefox).

[code:1:84c942a3cd]
Warning: Unknown(): write failed: No space left on device (28) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Unknown(): Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/tmp) in Unknown on line 0
[/code:1:84c942a3cd]

Any help would be welcome!!

Antonio.

My guess would be that you receive this ewrror whehn the /tmp directory on the server (which you do not have access to) reaches capacity or near-capacity. It probably starts working again as soon as the /tmp folder is cleared out.

Next time you see this error, go into your Cpanel and check Server Status. Look for any red status icons.

If I am correct that your problem arises when the server /tmp folder fills up, then you will need to submit an email to support@hostgator.com for further help. Perhaps they will be able to clear this directory out more often to prevent a buildup.

Hi Justin,

The problem is gone now I would agree with you, thinking about this matter I notice a pattern, the error occurs in the morning (my time GMT) even though today it seemed to last way longer I just got back from lunch it's 2PM so the problem was still around at 1PM lasting (at least) from 9 AM onwards.

Regardless I'll drop support an email along with a copy of your response just to get them on track.

Thanks

Antonio.

Update: support just told me they fixed the problem

I'm in touch the folks @ support, again we have the same error which make the pattern evident the problem occurs in the morning I checked cPanel as you recommended and I have red here:

Disk hda5 (/var) 93 %

This is usually on yellow (in the 70's or 80s I think) at those times we dont have the error.

Im wondering if support should be alerted whenever we see yellow on the service status, I'd assume it would be redundant as the datacenter/techs would know.. but then again maybe not

Just gave support this extra bit of info too.

Later.

For optimum performance, all of the status indicators in your Cpanel should be green. When the numbers reach a certain level, an alert is dispatched to the appropriate parties and, if necessary, services are restarted or directories cleaned out.

Glad that techs were able to clear this up for you.

I'm closing this thread now as it appears resolved. If you have any other problems, please feel free to start a new thread.
