Hey,
Can someone tell me how to restore the backup located in the home directory??? I tried clicking backup/restore in CPanel, however it asks me to upload the file from my computer. How do I tell it to use the file on the server? Need help fast!!!

I'm not sure what you mean. How are you going to restore something that is already in place? Maybe I just don't understand the "backup located in the home directory". I am pretty certain that the "Restore" that you're talking about will only upload from your hard drive. . . so no guarantees, but maybe a bit more info and I can help. Unless you're talking about you deleted something in the file manager, then you'd have to click on the file/folder icon to restore it (NOT the trash icon). . .

Hi,
I changed hosts. In CPanel, at my old host, I generated a backup of my site. I sent the backup file to my new server here. So now the backup file is in the home directory (where CPanel always stores the backups) How do I tell it to restore that file?

I guess I am unsure where cpanel stores backups on the server, or in the home directory. I guess if I kind of understand you I would save the file to your computer hard drive, then ftp it up and save it in your home directory wherever you want it or overwrite existing files . . . .
I am assuming your backup is in .zip or .tar or some type of zipped application - so if it is not where you can reach it, for instance: http://domain.com/backup.zip Then go to your file manager in cPanel & be sure that it is reachable: if it's here: /home/username/backup.zip move it to /home/username/public_html/backup.zip Then the http://domain.com/backup.zip will work. then save it & you can upload it via the cPanel after clicking on the "Backup" button there is a "Restore Home" prompt. search for your "home" backup & I am assuming it'll work. I've always just uploaded a folder at a time, and never tried that way. Hope I helped. |

Nope doesn't work.
It uploads everything to a directory called /home/username/backup/ which is obviously no good.

I know I'm not strictly support here, but I think may know how to help with your problem. If it's asking you to upload it from your hard-drive, then get it from your server using download/ftp and then upload it to cpanel like you tried to do initially. Hope that helps.

it has been 11 days since the last reply, so I will assume this issue has been resolved. As always, if you still have a problem, please open a new thread.
