I just bought a reseller package. I been hosting my sites with another server. I'm pretty familar with the design side of things and about getting your pages up and going. I want to transfer all my sites here. I changed my host name to Name Servers status though your tutitoral on using Go Daddy. Some questions:
1. If I make an account using one of my clients domains that is hosted on my old server and I changed that domain's Name Server to my new one does this site automaticlly start looking for files on my IP that I have with you? Or is there something else I need to do? 2. Will all my accounts point to the IP you have assigned to me? 3. Could you explain to me what a DNS Zone is. And do I need to set one up in the WHM panel? 4. When I add a new account and it is set up, the DNS is still listed to your websitewelcome.com DNS. Same thing with the automatic email sent to the customer. How do I change this message? I'm really excited about how much more goodies I'm getting with Host Gator. I can't wait to get started. Thanks for the help. Johnny B

Welcome to Host Gator, Johnny B.
I will try and answer your questions as best as I can. 1: Changes to DNS entries may take up to 72 hours to fully propagate. The average time is much shorter, but it is always best to allow for up to 3 days. This means that as soon as you change the nameservers for a site, it can take some time before the site is actually found at its new location. Your best solution here is to add a redirect to sites on your old server so that all visitors are directed to the new server right away. 2: Yes, all accounts you create will have the same IP of your main reseller account. Where they differ is in the username. 3: The DNS Zone area in WHM is rarely used except on rare occasions, such as if you delete account but wish to keep the DNS info to point it somewhere else. Most users will never use this area and the settings will never need to be modified. 4: You may request to have custom nameservers based on your main accounts domain. For example, if your reseller domain is www.greathostsite.com, you could use NS1.GREATHOSTSITE.com and NS2.GREATHOSTSITE.com as your custom nameservers. If you wish to have these set up for you, simply contact support@hostgator.com and give them your account info and ask that they set you up with custom nameservers. ![]() I hope this info has been helpful. ANy other questions, feel free to ask. -Justin |
