I've been experiencing FTP problems for a few days. I kept getting Operation Timed Out errors and have been unable to FTP files. Navigating from one directory to another takes a very long time. I have tried a few different FTP programs, and experience the same problem. I have other websites/servers that I do work on and am NOT having the same problems with them. The only problem I'm having is withy my HostGator accounts.

I've contacted Customer Support via AOL (gatorsupport3). I was told last night that "the admins are looking into it". This afternoon I contacted gatorsupport3 again and he acted like he did not know what I was talking about. He then proceeded to tell me it was working fine for him. Great...I'm happy for him.....but it's NOT working for me and I'm the one paying for it. He again told me it was working fine...and I told him it was NOT working for me. He then sends me a file that he had created on my server. Whoppee...it works for him....but it still DOES NOT work for me.

Obviously, gatorsupport3 is not interested in assisting me. That dissapoints me because I had heard such good things about HostGator and up until this problem, I've really not had any other issues.

I hope another customer support person will see this message and look into the problem and try and assist me. I have two current folks that I've set up to resell to and have another potential one; however, I need to be able to have FTP access...for their accounts and for my own!

Just to clarify...

Are you saying that you can't ever FTP any files, or are you saying that you can FTP files, but eventually you time out and have to start over? If the latter, it could be an issue with your ISP intermittently cutting out (happens to me all the time with Charter).

Jason,

It wasn't a problem with my ISP since I could connect to other sites not hosted by HostGator...it was just my HostGator accounts.

Anyway, problem was resolved....somehow I was connecting via Active not Passive mode. Not sure how that got changed but it's now working

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post.

I've been experiencing problems with FTP today too. New folders with index files are coming up with '500 Internal Server Errors'.

So I write to support and all I get is:

"The first one loaded fine for me the second one...
The folders permissions are bad."

from an unsigned support staff member.

Well DUH, obviously something is bad...it's not friggin working.

Please ask you staff to be a little more proactive in coming up with solutions when your customers write for assistance. Telling us "permissions are bad" doesn't do a whole hell of a lotta good when all my folders and index files are CHMODed just like the rest of them!

Signed,
Disappointed
