Hi,
Sorry for the probably very basic question but I am stuck. I have set up an ftp account for my client. The account is called ycm_client with password xxxxxx. So let me get this right this has created a new directory called ycm_client off the mysite.com (ie.www.mysite/ycm_client) directory. This client wants his own clients to have access to this directory to upload/download files to this directory. Can they access this ftp directory via an IE browser without having to get an ftp software like ws_ftp etc? I thought I would have been able to access it like: ftp://ftp.mysite.com/ycm_client/ and then enter the username and password in the dialog that comes up? I have also tried with the username and password preceeding the mysite.com..... Is it possible to do????/ |

The solution is easy.
For your client.... make a sub-domain ... client.yourdomin.com Now the client can ftp to THIS account and would be redirected to his/her directory on your domain. The method of using IE as an FTP client would be as follows. ftp://username assword@ftp.client.yourdomain.com or ftp://username assword@client.yourdomain.comYou can check the FTP accounts through your cPanel under the FTP managment tools i beleive .... ![]() Faisal. http://www.archernetworks.com |

Hi Faisal (thanks for your reply)
I tried what you said above. I have created the subdomain 'clients'. I have created an ftp account with the same details 'clients' as the user account with a test password for now of abc123. I have a dummy file in it called cr#p.php. If I go http://yourcomputerman.com.au/clients/ no probs see the directory which has been created although I thought it would have pasword protected this directory but it doesnt? I guess I password protect separately/manually then? However I can not access the ftp no matter which way I try access it. ftp://clients:abc123@ftp.clients.yourcomputerman.com.au and ftp://clients:abc123@clients.yourcomputerman.com.au plus another 10 different combinations I have tried do not seem to work. Is there something I have missed or set up wrong? I know this should be easy but I have managed to make it hard :? |

Ahhhhhhhh. You are a champ Stef.
It was the last one with the %40 converter symbol in it. Well done. I wasnt even aware of the IE problem with the multiple @ usage. Thanks for that.
