Thumbs down Choosing a Host

Well there is definitely no lie about the fact that having to choose an a host can be a nightmare.

I had already spent prior to my sign up for the reseller package with HG, close to a week trying to find a suitable host. My stress levels had reached astronomical proportions then I was referred to HG.

Everything looked good, all my fears and nightmares about moving hosts was finally starting to subside and I thought that finally I've found a host that I could entrust with the hosting of my website and those of my clients.

Well needless to say, my fears, frustrations are back. My doubts about Hostgator hosting my sites are increasing by the minute.

These are the some of the reason for my disatisfaction.

Not enough information on server configuration. When one runs into a problem it takes ages to resolve.

Support Emails sent and received: it takes a minimum of 2 - 5 emails any particular subject to get it resolved - if it gets resolved. Response to emails are way to long and one clearly gets the impression that support staff are not all that eager to assist.

So-called free Service: (and I quote from the home page here)
Coming from another host?

We know how difficult it can be moving to another host. That is why we will handle the entire process for you. (Take note: we will; not might, maby, if you meet with certain criterior, only if... BUT we will)
  • - Free Domain Transfer - I've been told that the 7 of my domains mix of .com .net .org I need to transfer through www.registryrocket.com --they charge 15$ which translates into a further R105. Being in South Africa the remaining .co.za domains that I have, would be dealt with by me .
  • - Free File Transfers - less than 40% were transferred - I did the rest even after being told that my main site was being downloaded and uploaded - well it wasnt - had I known that I could have completed the file transfer ages ago
  • - Free Database Transfers -- I tranferred all the databases
  • - Free Script Transfers --- no script transfer
I've had to ask my clients not to upload any data to their oscommerce sites pending the successfull transfer of the domains - my client are being inconvenienced - I'm being inconvenienced and at the rate things are going it's going to take another how long.

I'm risking my livelihood - I havent earned a cent in over a week. I cant take on work at the moment, I'm still trying to get my site sorted out and those of my clients.

I'm truly ready to give up on HG - stress is one thing when you know it's going to end but when it feels like theres no light at the end of the tunnel, just a dark void, then in my opinion its time to move along. And for me right now I feel as if I'm in some bottomless pit.

My only source of support right now -HG- couldnt care a damn.

Are you transferring to a dedicated server or reseller account?

Transfers can be complicated depending on what type of host you're coming from...

Post your support ticket numbers here, it will help speed up responses from HG support staff that look into it.

I had them transfer my account when I moved here. It went without a hitch. When I moved to a dedicated server I moved my own accounts since I had access to root WHM.

We will transfer one domain for free, if you were told that we would charge for this single domain and it was a .com .net or .org, please provide the ticket number so I can look into this for you.

Please provide the ticket where this was left unresolved. The only transfer ticket that I could find on your account is IEQ-303183 and you did not reply back to it after we changed the permissions per your final request on 12/31/07.

Again, please provide ticket numbers where your issues were left unresolved. I looked into your ticket history and all 36 tickets submitted since December 28th were completed. If something was not done to your satisfaction, a reply back to the ticket would have reopened it so we can continue working on it.
