I currently have a reseller plan, about two weeks old, with another company that allows unlimited everything but has a lot of problems (email doesn't work, shopping cart doesn't upgrade, etc.) and am looking to sign with HG instead.
Does HG offer any special discounts for non-profits? My boss is president of The Lord's Pantry here and they don't have an internet presence. They also have a limited budget, are run entirely by volunteers, and have more requests for help than they get donations due to the economy. A website would offer them another avenue to get donations. It is my understanding that I would set the rates for hosting. Is that right? Could I set them up as a free account if I am a reseller here? Also, I am a newb and want to know if any of the website templates would work for a charity to accept donations. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Thanks for the quick answer to my first question. Does anyone know if there is a template in the sitebuilder for charities? I don't know html at all and would like to start out with a pre-made site until I learn the ropes. Basically I need to be able to have buttons for standard donations ($5,10, etc) and also a button to fill in a donation amount for those that want to donate a different amount than what may be on the buttons. Since a merchant account is unaffordable, they will have to be Paypal buttons unless someone knows of a way charities can accept credit cards without having to pay for a merchant account.
Also, can anyone recommend a good book I can get to learn how to program my own site? I know there are books for dummies, but those are not always thorough. I would like to get Dreamweaver in the future but want to learn basic html first. Thanks for any advice.

If you don't want to spend the next few months / years learning how to program for the web, then I would suggest you take a look at Wordpress.
You can install Wordpress via Fantastico (in cpanel) in almost no time at all. Then you are ready to start creating content. To change the look there are hundreds of free templates available. Just do a google search on wordpress themes and you will see what I mean. You don't need to write any code and you don't need to purchase any software. Also check out www.wordpress.org Good luck.

Wordpress is good, but is designed for blogs, so I don't think it will be appropriate in his case

If you know and understand wordpress well, then you will know there are posts and pages. Just use pages and set it up like a normal "non" blog site. There is no reason to not use wordpress as a traditional website.
