Changing domain registration.

I have my root domain registered with HG and I'd like to change the registration so it's in my name and contact details. How do I do this?

You should be able to change the information if you log into your domain management at http://hostgator.com/domains. If you have any problems I would contact Live Chat and they should be able to explain what you need to do.

According to the rules of ICANN (the governing authority for domain name registration), "you must wait 60 days after the initial registration or any previous transfers to initiate a transfer."

If it's been more than 60 days since you registered your domain, you can transfer it to another registrar.

You also have to renew the Domain for an additional year whenever you transfer registrars.

(That's what I was told by Moniker, anyway.)

On most registrars, you pay only for one yr. renewal fee and get it transfered to them for free.

or you can say, when you pay for transfer you get one year added to current expiry date.

To be more precise, Transferring adds another year only if the registration period doesn't exceed the Max Allowed Registration period for the said TLD. (eg. 10 yrs for a .com)
