I am intending to transfer my web host to HG and was told that I just simply need to change the DNS servers at my domain registrar after signing up. So how am i going to get it done?
Currently my domain status is "clientTransferProhibited" and by 19/07/2008, I should fufilled the so-called 2 months contract to change my web host. So should I sign up with HG now or should I wait after 19/07/2008? I am totally new to all these and simply too confused. Anyone please help. |

You would need to log into your domain management with the registrar of the domain and change the nameservers to the ones that HG will send you when the account is set up. The Client Transfer Prohibited generally means that the domain is locked so that changes cannot be made without your approval. You should be able to unlock the domain and make the changes.
If you provide the domain we can provide more information on what may be necessary. |

Thanks GvilleRick for your reply.
My domain is www.mappybloom.com. Is it true that I need to wait till 19/07/08 to change web host? Hope you will be able to provide me with more information. |

There is a difference between registering a domain and hosting your domain. At your domain registrar, you should be able to change the nameservers to the ones provided in your HG welcome email. That will tell the internet that the domain is being hosted at HG. There are three possibilities for the message you are getting. That domain was created May 18, so the 60-day limit on transferring registration, not hosting, will expire July 19. That would refer only to the registration, which would be good for another 10 months at its current registrar. If it is simply locked, as Rick indicated, that is a registrar precaution so that nobody but you can change the nameservers (and can be simply unlocked by, usually, logging in). Finally, if you signed up somewhere that was offering a combination of registration and hosting and you agreed to stay for two months, as your post seems to indicate, that firm apparently is retaining you until the 19th.

The domain is registered with Godaddy.com.
Did you register the domain at Godaddy yourself? If so, login to Godaddy using the credentials you got at the time of registration and as GvilleRick and Gwyneth said, change the nameservers to what was in / will be in, your welcome email from HG. You don't need to move the domains registration away from Godaddy if you don't want to, now or ever. However you won't be able to move it until the "clientTransferProhibited" time lapses. Hosting your domain's website is different from where or who you choose to register your domain name through, although often they can be the same entity.

I have registered my domain through Google.
So will it be the same procedure to change the nameserver or will HG be able to guide me the steps once I've signed up? |

Ok, so log into your domains account at google. Then set your nameservers there, then wait up to 48 hours for the settings to propagate.

regardless of where you registered your domain, the process for changing the nameservers will be similar and you'll need to do the same things as state by the other folks.

I've just signed up with HG today but still could not solve the DNS problem.
I've search for the entire Google Support / Forum but there's no answer where the DNS Management is located. I've posted my queries but there's no reply. I've found many others have posted the similar queries but there is no solution to it. I've found one reply saying that there's no way to do it but to register a new domain name with new hosting company. How can that be possible?? Can anyone help? |

Where / what page did you register the domain at.
When you registered the domain, you must have got a login or password to be able to back and make changes.

When I logged in, it goes directly to my site manager and site settings. Inside site settings, I could only find basic information on my site name, url. There are no other information on DNS stated anywhere. |
