I have in mind to change webhosting for my Joomla 1.5 site from Ipage webhosting to HostGator webhosting because webhosting of my Joomla site on Ipage is sooooooooooooooooo slow! This means that I have to put in some way or another, my present site contents ton my Hostgator account.
When I live-chatted with a HG customer rep, Hostgator are offering me to transfer/migrate my site for free. I have one question here: Would you rather go for this transfer/migration of my site done automatically by Hostgator or you'd rather prefer to have it done manually using Akeeba backup maybe? I know only of these 2 methods - maybe there are more.. I'm after a 'no-hassle' method but at the same time I want to make sure that all the contents of my site are fully transferred/backed up to my new webhosting company and done safely! Which best hassle-free and safe method is the wisest to use? Any comments and advice will be greatly appreciated. I appreciate also if you can give me some general tips of what one should keep in mind when performing such transfer/migration. |

Hello kevin78,
Per what was stated in the Live Chat session, we do offer a FREE website transfer. There is zero hassle involved for you. Once you have your account setup with us, you can then initiate this transfer process. You can do this by filling out our transfer request from located at https://secure.hostgator.com/transfer.php . From there, you will receive a ticket confirmation for the request. To ensure everything goes as planned and with minimal delay, please be sure to fill out the form completely. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask! |

Thanks for your reply and for your instructions GatorJDubinsky. I followed your link to the form indicated, and I was reading somewhere else on HG site that upon registration for a shared HG account, one will be given one free Transfer and one full cPanel transfer. Sorry to ask but is this the same thing or I have to decide beforehand whether to go for a one free transfer or else for a full cPanel transfer? And if these 2 are two different kind of transfers, does the form you provided caters for both transfers?
Apparently 'Full cPanel transfers include all domains, Addon Domains, Subdomains, and cPanel settings. This will also include your emails and email accounts'. Does this mean that if I currently have 2 domains webhosted on Ipage, if I choose this full cPanel method to transfer my contents to HG, both domains will be transferred and not just my primary account? Because if I'm understanding correctly, the best and most hassle-free method to transfer all my site and all the other contents, is to go for this Full cPanel Transfer rather than for a 'normal' transfer. And is this Full cPanel transfer offerred also for free or there's a cost involved? |
