I'm having a problem with my old current host and I can't access the function to change my dns settings to point my current domain names to hostgator. Can I set up an account and get access so that I can begin to set things up and then point my domain here once later?

You could always check Youtube for much detailed tips and step by step procedures on how to do things here at HostGator. You can find a lot of videos that give tutorials and how to get started on everything. Simply search for term like 'change DNS hostgator' something like that.
