I'm a long, cold boat ride away from accessing an XP or Vista computer, but can you not make another by choosing new?

Also, by any chance do you have McAffee virus stuff installed? Apparently that can cause cPanel login problems w. Vista.

Well, so much for believing in dreams; I'm so tired and discouraged that I'm about ready to chuck the whole internet marketing mess. The more things are described as 'simple' and '1 click away,' the more tedious and obscure (at least, to me) they become! End of rant...

I assume you use a Mac. I keep threatening to abandon the whole PC scene (you're right about those previous comments about MS complicating things, etc.). I hate Windows, any version, which might be the source of most of my ignorance problems. I fought Windows and clung to DOS until it was no longer feasible, so I missed the early days of Windows and didn't grow up with it, so to speak. Add to that my age (now 78), so I didn't grow up with computers, either, so with two strikes against me, I might be going down any day. <G>

I didn't see anything about 'new' anywhere, but I'll have another look.

No McAfee; had it with them years ago. I use AVG (or, rather, did) and Avast, the latter my tech's choice, Spybot and Adaware.

Are we both on the same page re not giving up and determining to get it figured out ourselves? I'm thinking it might be better to just let support handle it. If you want to go that way, I'll put in a ticket. In the meantime, I'll have another look at opening the ports and see if I can find a way to do the second one.

I'm worried about what I did, though. When I got into the Exceptions originally, Firefox was there, but it wasn't checked, which made no sense to me. Now it's there twice, opening the port having made a second entry, and I think I have them both checked now. I was surprised when I first looked to see so few things checked, and, as usual, I didn't really understand the implications and consequences of any of the entries. And so it goes...

Hope I'm making sense; I'm tired of proofing my loquaciousness and have stopped.

Don't give up...and my late mom was about your age when she did all kinds of things, including taking a class in PC hardware at her university's "keep the retired faculty busy" center.

While I have Macs, they're on the mainland. Right now, for the last week or two of cottage living, it's two PCs with good old Windows 98SE.

I wouldn't necessarily worry about having so few things checked. After all, how many applications need/use internet access? Firefox, your email client, an ftp application.

Are you trying cPanel after each change?

Also, I'm going to start a new thread for this in the shared hosting category. This sticky really is an old collection of stuff that is semi-relevant to your problem (which as I said before, is not installing cPanel proxy script, but accessing cPanel via a home LAN with Vista and Windows XP).

As a separate thread, it may get more attention from other people who can help. Also, it will be more useful in the future to people who might be looking.

I did find a way to add 2083, too. When I did it, it was added to the list, just as 2082 was, and came up checked, so I checked 2082 again (but left the Firefox.exe one unchecked like I had originally found it and is still apparently working correctly as I've had incoming messages), i.e., 2082 and 2083 checked, basic Firefox unchecked. I tried again, but it still failed. Something else must be causing the problem, so what could it be?

Could there be a problem with my password or user name? I am using the ones sent when I signed up and have no other except the one I use for the forums. I would be willing to PM these to you, if that would be useful, but I suspect it is forbidden because it could put you in a compromising position.

On the port/program unblocking menus, there is a place for a custom list where you 'specify the set of computers for which this port or program is unblocked' (the default is the whole internet, and I'd like to use that option anyway). The example for this shows several IP numbers, then several combinations of numbers and lower case letters separated by colons, which I assume is one or more subnets (I skipped a heading, but don't worry about it). So, if cpanel has an ip number, and maybe my cpanel is a subset, putting one or both of those might make a difference, although I can see no reason why it should, since that's an option.

Come to think of it, I have an ip address for my cpanel that was sent for use before my DNS had changed over. I'm going to give that a try and see what happens. Didn't work. But...

does this say anything to you? after I enter my access URL, there is a quick flash of a two tone blue screen that's so fast I can't see what it is, one login screen appears whose URL is magicmegamoneymakers.com:2082/unprotected/redirected.html and when I close that a more formal looking login screen comes up, but I get a refusal and reversion back to the first login screen.

Am I correct in thinking that the word unprotected in that URL confirms that the port has been properly opened. I could have done something wrong there and don't know it.

Re your last post on the other thread:

Yes, good old Win 98SE. That's why I have this complicated two-computer mess. The XP machine's hard drive is partitioned with 98SE in the other partition. Too many programs that I didn't want to give up that wouldn't run on XP. Then, I needed a faster computer and a bigger hard drive for internet marketing, result Vista Business.

I had an unbelievably knowledgeable guy in New Orleans (home city) who would have put all of this together for me to be as smooth as silk. I always knew he was good (and one reason why I'm not, probably) but didn't know how good till I got to NZ. I have the best I've had here now, and he's pretty good (Scots, not New Zealander), but there's no place like home. One reason I'm getting into affiliate marketing is because I want to return to the US and the long-time unfavorable currency exchange rate here has wrecked me financially. At current speed, I might not live long enough to see home again. LOL

I readily identify with your mother. I was 69 when I decided to come to NZ, settled all of my financial affairs in the US, sold my house (that took 30 minutes - a buyer was waiting for a house to come on the market in my location), said my goodbyes, and left. It was something I wanted to do and, it never occurred to me that it was anything extraordinary for someone of my age until someone here said she was amazed that I'd done it.

Now, I've forgotten what you said business-wise in your last post on the other thread. Yes, I tried to login after each change I made. No, using my cpanel IP address didn't work.

I was about to tell you that I would be willing to continue this odyssey via e-mail if you wanted to as I don't really think what's going on now is of use to anyone else considering that it's become pretty subjective.

hi gays!
before several minutes
I wanted to go in my cPanel account and saw this message:"Network Timeout.
The server at www.realcoverletter.com is taking too long to respond.
The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply.

* Could the server be experiencing high demand or a temporary outage? Try again later.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.
* Still having trouble? Consult your network administrator or Internet provider for assistance. "
My web e-mail account same problem.
What should do?

The site is working fine for me. It could be a problem in routing with your ISP. I would try turning off the modem if you are using cable or DSL and try restarting. I was having problems with my ISP yesterday morning and after a couple of hours everything was back to normal. If the problem continues you can try running a traceroute from your local machine to the server and copy that into a ticket so that the techs can have a look and see if there is a problem they can address.

Your IP may be blocked due to the firewall. If you try too many times with a failed login the firewall can block your IP. The techs should be able to sort it out.

The autoinstaller no longer works!

When your link is clicked, I get this:

Quote:
cPanel Proxy Auto Installer
I am sorry to announce that my original auto installer is lost due to an error on the website host, and me not keeping backups of old projects.

Fortunately cPanel Proxy is easy to install manually, but I may need to clarify some stuff in the instructions.
Any advice?

If you are referring to the link in the first post of this thread then it is understandable that it would not work. This thread was opened over 3 years ago and cPanel has changed quite a bit in that time. One change is that the cpanel proxy is now a part of cPanel. You can access it by going to cpanel.yourdomain.com. If it does not work you should submit a ticket to support and ask them if it is enabled. I have it enabled on my dedicated server and it works fine.

I can't access the Cpanel for bookforseo.com, it is a add-on domain. I can access the Wp-admin area for bookforseo.com

There is no separate cPanel for addon domains, only the cPanel for the main account.

Hi, Unfortunately, I can not get to my cpanel and the proxy fix page you listed above does not load either.

I have done a hard reset on my router and disabled my software firewall. I was also using Opendns and I have removed that as well. Any other ideas would be much appreciated.

I do use Verizon FIOS for internet and I know they block port 80 on residential accts which is what I have. How do I work around this?

Thanks!

When trying to access cpanel, what error do you see? If no error, what do you see?

That would be port 80 inbound to stop you hosting websites on your pc. They can't block port 80 outbound or you wouldn't be able to access any websites.
