Question Can you bite at these questions?

Hello Gator,

Wondering if you can take a bite out of this questions I have? This will be a first for me to transfer. Have about 4 domains and 3 hosting accounts else where that I want to consolidate to one. Looking into the Baby, but always can upgrade to swamp.

1) For domains hosted else where (GoDaddy), what method do you use to point them to their specific folders (eq. rewrite) on your servers? I can see in the CP where to point it to the folder after changing the DNS.

2) After pointing a domain through DNS to your servers, will there be ability to add more email accounts to each domain I point?

3) Does each Domain get there own CP or is that just in the reseller’s plans?

4) Are there any hidden limitations I should be concern about? Number of files on server? Largest file allowed? X amount of request to MYSQL database?

5) Once I register, I'll see more area for help under these forums so I don't have to bug support?

You guys/gals are at the top of my list of feeling most comfortable with. One key thing is doing it monthly to give it a good test drive. Looking forward in doing some business, I hope.

JJ

1) Domains pointed to folders are addon domains. Very simple using cPanel.

2) Yes.

3) Just for resellers. If you want a CP for each user, get a reseller account.

4) Yes. 25 max connections to the mySQL per domain, 60 hits per hour, per account, to the POP3. (not domain, email account). 200 or so outgoing email per hour per account. HG uses mod_security.

5) Yes, most of the forums are so secret you can't see them now. All of the support forums will be available to you within about a week of registering. (it isn't automatically done, some times you need to ask specifically).

HG is a good hosting company, I've not had any problems with them.

Thanks for your fast response - little confused with this answer. Just want to make sure. Yes, some are stupid questions

Email
If the settings were set to check/send email for every minute this would be the 60 allowed per hour for that email account? So, if I have three emails accounts, each one would be able to check/send 60 times/hr?

Say I do one mass mailing from a mailing list of a forum of 300 email address, would this go through or it would have to be broken up?

mySQL
Each domain can only have 25 mySql databases? Little lost because I'm not sure what you mean by 25 connections. It can't be a connection/visitor because then you can only have 25 visitors at a time on the domain. Can you please clarify.

Thanks again for your time.

Yes, each would be able to check 60 times per hour.

A 300 message mailing would need to be broken up.

You may have as many databases as you wish... One connection equals one visitor. So, at most, you can have 25 vistors connected at one time. That is the bad news. The good news is that forum visitors don't use a connection while they are online, they only use a connection when they are refreshing pages. It seems like with 25 connections, you could have between 300-500 vistors online at one time, YMMV.

If you exceed the connection, the users get an error message saying that they can't connect to the database. If they refersh, the screen comes back.

If you have a forum with 500 visitors, I suggest you move up to the semidedicated account.

Don't have a forum but want to build a photography site with Joomla. Also using a Gallery program that is mySQL based. People usually browse through photos pretty quick so 25 connections seems little low compare to other hosting companies that offer 50.

Just wondering if any other members have a Joomla/mambo site running with any problems during high volume traffic? For that matter, if you don't have a problem, what's the site traffic?

Little iffy w/ that connection limit.

The 25 connection limit is only a problem if you get enough users that 25 of them would be hitting the database at the same exact second, in other words, only 25 people could click on a link at the same time. The 26th person would be out of luck, but keep in mind that the connection to the database only lasts a fraction of a second, even though it might take 5 seconds for the page to display. So in one second, 75-100 connections to the database might be possible.

They do offer a 30 day guarentee, so if you move your site and find that the 25 connection limit is a problem, you can upgrade to a larger connection limit by going semidedicated or you can just get you money back.

That is what I wanted to here - that clears it up for me.

Thanks so much for your time
