Is it possible to use iWeb with HostGator? I've searched the FAQ and forums and iWeb isn't coming up. I'm just curious, if not WordPress.org will do the job.

Taken from the Apple web site:
"Publish your website the way you want, wherever you want, directly from your Mac. iWeb makes it easy. It takes just a few clicks to publish your site to MobileMe or any other hosting service via FTP." http://www.apple.com/ilife/iweb/ |

I wondered if anyone on HostGator was actually using iWeb, or if a staff member could confirm it would work and display just fine specifically on HostGator. |

Yes, you can publish it to a folder on your local computer, then upload the files via FTP. The 'widgets' like counters, etc won't work, but static html pages will be fine.

It works I have done this with different websites.
And I haven't seen a widget (stock ones that I have tried) to not work by using ftp instead of mobileme. |

You can install Wordpress from the Fantastico section in your cpanel.

I configured my FTP account on iWeb to work with HostGator, but it is not working. I get a file not found message every time. Advice please. Link? I have checked with iWeb and they say the problem is with HostGator. I do not want to install WordPress on the site just set up a simple biz site.

If you have not updated your name servers are you using the IP for the hostname? If so, you may want to shoot an email to support to see what is happening.
FTP should be working. Support can get it going if not...

I have a client using iWeb, so I can confirm it does indeed work.

What about a data base? Can I set up a database on hostgator so that can enable blog comments on iweb? or is I web not setup for this?

kmaw, thanks for that link, it was very useful. It looks like it will be easier to go with WordPress.org and save myself some hassle.

It does NOT work. I have an iweb built site that will not upload to Hostgator correctly. It just shows up as a bunch of directories and files. No website. I have been on with hostgator tech support multiple times for hours anf they can't figure it out.
What is the trick to getting it to upload correctly? |
