Lets say I were to have a small entry level free service on my hosting site. Does WHM allow me to insert some kind on text or logo that links back to my host site? Like Freewebs.com they have alittle logo bar at the bottom of there non paying member sites, can I do this?????

Yes you could use the skeleton directory for their primary pages, but if your users have access to FTP or can modify in any other ways their web pages they could get rid of your text or logo easily. But you could put in your TOS and their primary page that they must leave these informations or be suspended if not. Then you will have to implement some way to verify if the "text and logo" is still on their pages...
The only other way would be to control yourself the way that their pages are showed as the administrator, this would need more work and script creation or using a CMS. (This is the solution that used Freewebs.com.) Last edited by regentronique; 10-13-2008 at 02:13 PM. Reason: typos |

Find a way to verify it's there (if necessary, by periodic manual inspection--you probably won't be able to have so many free accounts that this would be difficult.) Now that you have full forum access, you may be able to get some ideas in the other categories or post a specific question about how to do this.

Had it been a dedicated server you would have made adjustment to apache to forcefully show a link or image on the processed page. I don't think you would be able to keep track of who shows your logo and who removes, cause user's file would be in their account and they could edit the source file to have their site free from your Ads. |

Try out Check&Get at www.activeurls.com
It's only $40 It monitors websites and notifies you by email whenever any content changes - even embeds the new version of the modified page right in the email with the changes highlighted. |

At least some of its features appear to need a dedicated server to work.

You just have to download each webpage and scan for your text and image. If you want to be more sure, you would have to analyse the tags and styles to see if they are visible but this would need a lot more programming. Personnally i would prefer to use a CMS for each account and give the user limited control on the CMS usage. That way they would not be able to disable the header and footer. PS. Another easy way to check, is just to make a program scanning all accounts and showing each one in a iframe inside one browser. Then you could easily browse all of them once a day to see if your text and image is still visible. |

If there is not a lot of accounts 10-20 you could use a FF plug in called Fast Dial. It loads a small thumbnail of each site you designate.

regentronique and zevin have both suggested good ways to do what Tyronemorrisey wants.
In this case, I think regentronique's suggestion about a CMS may be the way to go, because it would be the easiest way for someone who does not have extensive experience to implement protection against at least some of the many ways free accounts can cause a reseller trouble.
