How can I direct online forums/message boards?

Ok, I'm trying to re-direct my message boards for the time being, but I seem to be having a hard time.

I can re-direct it, but the domain reverts to the forum hosts whenever I browse the forums. I already have a forums.domainnamehere.com domain set-up. Is there any special method I have to go through to do this?

I'm using Invision Power Board (IPB) if it helps, and it simply says:

The domain you have entered does not appear to point to this server at this time. The domain should point to z4.invisionfree.com with a CNAME record.

I'd appreciate any possible help in advance. The official forums for IPB didn't offer much.

All redirects do are that--redirect, then that's it.

If you're using InvisionFree, you may as well install IPB 1.3 on your own server.

Just setup a subdomain called forums.
