Default Buying country specific domains

Hello, would be grateful if perhaps some of you with bigger sites and therefore more experience could lend some help.
I want to start building up my network of sites, and one of the ways in which I want to do that is by having a regional derivative for each site in that country's language. For example, patwanet.co.uk in English (which I have), patwanet.nl in Dutch, patwanet.se in Swedish, etc.

However most of the well known registrars only do the .com. org and .net domains.

I know there are registrars local to the countries in question that do the national domains, but is there a central port of call where I can do this? I also know that some countries require 'local registrations' of the domains, this is not a problem as I can facilitate this (in person if need be).

H.

Each country have hes own NIC. Most of them delegate to some registrars out of the country the right to register for them. Xregister can have Germany but not Switzerland and Yregister the opposite.
The best way is to checkout the national NICs where the authorized dealers are listed.
Many countries also have restrictions not permiting a non resident or local Corp. to open a .de for ex.
Remember also that perhaps, if you escape the unicode, you have to resolve some "Multilingual" problems in the urls set as "Native language" (*) and in some databases.
(*) to enter an international domain name, you can enter the domain in its native language, or you can enter the Unicode characters as HTML escapes. For example, to register "域名.com", you can enter 域名 or 域名 or 域名

Thanks, they don't have most of the ones I need, e.g .fr, .nl, .no, .se and so on.

Thanks anyway.

Hussein,

I think this is what you are looking for:

IANA | Root-Zone Whois Index by TLD Code
"The official list of all country specific TLD's, including .us, .uk, and .tv, plus links to where you can apply for a domain in that country...."

Info about all TLDs and finding a registrar for any of them can be found through:

ICANN | Top-Level Domains (gTLDs)

Thanks, they look ideal, I'll check them out.

One question, wy are some domains so much more expensive than others? Take japan for example, $100 for a domain, $60 for a new zealand one.

is it just that it's one class shorter, e.g domain.jp as opposed to say domainname.someextension.jp or is it due to local price enforcements by the particular country?

Out of sheer curiosity, how much would it cost to have your own TLD, for example something.hsp - .hsp doesn't exist, but if i wanted to create it and have it recognised, how much would be be talking for all the registration, presentation to ICANN, infrastructure, etc?

The country name being at the end (Right side) as the master discriminant, the equivalent of the tld beetwen the domain and the country. domain.com.uk domain.gouv.fr for example.

In many places you can NOT register if you are not resident neither citizen nor a local corporation. Nearly the same as for the .us
Some accept the registration over trustees

http://www.corenic.org/ Here on the left side of the page you will find some links belonging also to your questions.

I google mostly: International domain nic registrars CountryName

$60 for a new zealand one.

H.
Shop around for a registrar in the desired country - the average price for a NZ domain name for example is around $39.59 (about 30US) - That is what we sell them for

cheers
