Hi,
I'm seriously considering one of your shared hosting plans. In order to help me pick a provider from the 3 that I have narroved it down to, I'd like to have some detailed questions answered. I appreciate your time and patience. Alex 1. Which version of Apache are you running? 2. Do you provide SSH access to the server? 3. Do you provide telnet access to the server? 4. Are you a reseller? 5. Do you maintain the servers yourselves? 6. To what degree do you overload the servers? 7. What is your policy on running scripts and programs from the command line? For example, I want to use a script to back up my database. 8. Do you provide access to cron? Can I use it to execute command line scripts or only though a Web URL? 9. Can I see the output of "phpinfo" on the server I'll be assigned to? 10. Is PHP installed as an Apache module? 11. What is the Apache setting "AllowOverride" set to? 12. Is PHP Safe Mode disabled? 13. How much warning to you give before upgrades are performed? Is is possible to get a copy of the php.ini file you'll be using for the upgrade before it happens? 14. Could you provide me with a list of the installed PHP extensions? 15. Will PHP be available for use from the command line? |

Hi, most of these are answered in our FAQ, but I'll go ahead and respond here...
1. Which version of Apache are you running? version 1.3.31 2. Do you provide SSH access to the server? For security reasons, no. 3. Do you provide telnet access to the server? Same as above. 4. Are you a reseller? No. We lease space in a datacenter, but we are not a reseller for any other hosting company. 5. Do you maintain the servers yourselves? Hardware maintenence is performed by the datacenter (The Planet), but we manage/upgrade the server software remotely. 6. To what degree do you overload the servers? We do not overload our servers, and we do not oversell. 7. What is your policy on running scripts and programs from the command line? For example, I want to use a script to back up my database. Command line access is only available on dedicated plans. 8. Do you provide access to cron? Can I use it to execute command line scripts or only though a Web URL? You may execute cron jobs from with cPanel, but no command line access. 9. Can I see the output of "phpinfo" on the server I'll be assigned to? PHP is configured the same on all servers. PHP Info 10. Is PHP installed as an Apache module? Yes. 11. What is the Apache setting "AllowOverride" set to? I will check on this for you. 12. Is PHP Safe Mode disabled? Yes. 13. How much warning to you give before upgrades are performed? Is it possible to get a copy of the php.ini file you'll be using for the upgrade before it happens? As much warning as possible. Oftentimes, we cannot wait to install critical upgrades, so they are performed as needed. Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with php.ini prior to any upgrades. 14. Could you provide me with a list of the installed PHP extensions? I will check on this for you. 15. Will PHP be available for use from the command line? Command line access is only available on our dedicated machines at this time. |
