Default Broken Header in IE 7.0

Hi.

Just FYI: The HG site sometimes shows a broken header (i can see the gator's eyes only) I am using the IE 7.0 Beta. Don't know if this is a IE bug or what. I know of a few sites that have already worked on their code for the new browser. You might want to check it out.

"worked on their code for the new browser"

You mean that we should change our sites so that they work with a buggy browser?

No, no, no... not a buggy browser like that. Geez! Are you one of those anti - M$ people? (I mean that in a nice way. We all have our preferences.)

The webmasters that have found rendering issues are working on the CSS to be more compliant. IE 7 is really giving some sites a shake-down and I think might be a good thing. This new version of IE seems to want more compliant coding, similar to Firefox. It's not going to let us cheat anymore.

To me that sounds way more like a beta bug.

If it was a compliancy issue, then it likely wouldn't appear correctly in Firefox either imo.

No, IE has their own HTML specification, where Firefox uses the standard HTML specfication that the rest of the Internet uses. So, when the new broswer comes out, the rest of the world will need to reformat all of their code to match the new HTML specfication set by IE.

IE makes the rules, it doesn't follow them.

Argggggg, something I didn't want hear.

I don't even use IE any more, just once in awhile to check a page for compatibility. Everytime I do, I have a new scum tool bar in it. Then another 10 min to remove it from the registry.

There are two programs I use that I can only use in Windows, other wise I would be in a Linux box all the time.

Oh Boy

Ok, looks like the glitch is in IE (everyone say DUH!)

The problem is the way IE 7 renders XHTML - it is flawed. Oh well. Live and learn.

Later!

As long as IE has a large market share, we are going to have to design with the IE specs in mind. To bad everyone can't folow an industry standard and just add propriatary features to their browsers. It feel that every browser should render the same - that's my 2 cents. But, then that's not "real world." We all live in a Micro$oft world at least for a time.

Serra, you write some great posts. Love reading. Hava a great day!

I considered that possibility as well, and regardless, I would still consider it a bug whether intentional or not because it isn't following the HTML standard.

There's no way I'd change my site just to facilitate a non-compliant browser.

So if 80% of your visitors used a non-compliant browser you would not care if your site appeaerd broken?

Just FYI: IE 7 has found bad coding that renders ok in FF. Even FF does not cover the whole spectrum. It will always be in the best interest of webmasters to accomodate as many browsers as possible, at least the ones with high market share like IE, FF, Opera and Netscrape and the more recent versions. IE 7 is slated to come out with the next version of Windows and XP Pro. Be wise to prepare for it.

That's very much correct. I would make a small note at the top of the page informing them the site may appear incorrectly if they are using a non-compliant browser, and then offer a Firefox link.

After all, no one is forced to use IE anymore, it's a choice.

Otherwise you're just encouraging non-standards compliant browsers which needlessly make a webmaster's job that much more aggravating. Shooting yourself in the foot basically.

My 2 cents.

The errors which you have reported should now be fixed. We have also decided to make hostgator's index, shared, reseller and dedicated pages w3c compliant:

http://www.hostgator.com
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...Inline&group=0

http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...Inline&group=0

http://www.hostgator.com/resellers.shtml
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...Inline&group=0

http://www.hostgator.com/dedicated.shtml
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...Inline&group=0

We are working on making all pages compliant with WC3 standards along with allowing hostgator.com to work well in all browsers. We appreciate your concerns and feedback. Thank you.
