Hi there, I have a few questions/comments to make and I hope they can be answered.
1) I am a web designer/programmer, so don't be shy to get technical. I am working for a client who hosts all their pages here and so I have a job I need to do. And that is to set up email accounts from code. From PHP to be precise. In other words, the web site owner has a hostgator account which allows unlimited emails, and the site owner wants all their users to have their own email. So each time someone registers, they get username@domain.com as an email address. My client says this CAN be done in code because someone else who used to do scripts has done it before for another page. But I've been searching the forums and it would first appear that I can NOT create new email accounts from PHP. So I'd like some clarity on that. Again, can I code in PHP a hands-off way to make email accounts with user/pass and so on? So they don't have to use the cpanel to make emails. 2) I am interrested in the resellers account. I'm guessing that if I buy the account for 5gb space 50gb transfer, that I can create my own packages as long as they fit within that space right? So what happens if I create a simple package for 100mb space and 1gb transfer. This would fit roughly 50 accounts into my 1 resellers account. What happens when I need 51? Do I buy another resellers account? Upgrade? If I have to buy another resellers account, how fluid is my user registrations going to be? Will I have to change IPs or URLs for each new client of mine? If I wanted to sell 1000 accounts of 100mb and 1gb transfer, I'd have to have like 20 reseller accounts? Sounds like it could get way out of hand. Or do I have the wrong idea? Forgive my math. 3rd. I have a small comment, maybe I'm dumb though. This forum is entitled "pre-sales questions". I assume this means people can ask questions before buying from hostgator. But that doesn't make sense because when you register on the forum (as I did), they FORCE you to put in your hostgator account details and what package you have. Well DUH, this is a pre-sales question, I don't have a package yet, so basically I just put dud info in that space so I could get in here and ask pre-sales questions. Doesn't that seem backwards? I have to have a hostgator account before I can ask a pre-sales question? Maybe this should be post-sale questions forum. Anyway, thanks for your time and answers. |
