Boxtrapper - I need it back!

I have recently been informed that boxtrapper support has been suddenly removed from all your servers. This puts me in a major bind as I had recently begun promoting this feature heavily as a means of removing spam. It was very effective and my customers really liked it. Now I have egg on my face.

I feel like this feature was removed without any warning and this should have been handled in a better way. I find that Spam Assassin is totally ineffective at removing Spam. The reason given for removing Boxtrapper was that it was placing a high load on the servers. However, you are in the process of upgrading the servers and this feature is very beneficial. Can't you just some how throttle it instead of removing it completely?

I would really like this feature to be immediatly reinstated.

The removal of boxtrapper has been discussed here for over a year. I find it odd that you would have missed those posts. I also find it odd that you actually had boxtrapper on your system. It was stripped off the majority of systems a long time ago. HG was one of the last major companies to pull it. You will not find it on may hosting services any more.

HG no longer supports boxtrapper because it was causing a large amount of problems, is a security risk, caused high processor loads, and was generating a lot of support calls. (as I remember, I can't speak for HG, but thats what I remember them saying).

Dedicated servers still have boxtrapper, at the owners option, so move your sites to a dedicated server and you will be fine. (except for the problems with boxtrapper itself.)

There is no good alternative for box trapper at this time. You are stuck without it. However, you can point your clients to Comodo's free Antispam product. (see my website for a link).

cPanel has made many improvements to the Boxtrapper feature. We are currently reviewing it for possible re-entry into the production enviorment. There's no ETA on the conclusion of this testing phase though, as we want to make 100% sure it's ready for production use.

I'm running BT on my reseller account without any problems. Actually, today I finally started playing with it today, and love it.

I agree with Serra. I hate challege/response email systems and generally just delete the messages asking me to "Click here to verify".

At my job I deal with client from 8 to 5 via email for me to receive their artwork and then send them a virtual sample of what the product would look like with their logos and I've seen those click here to verify thing and it did made the process longuer between us and companies. Just for me, it was really annoying to received a second email..

This mean that if a client is wanting is virtual proof asap, I need to respond back to the verification email and then my email is sent to his mailbox. Since we process a lot of email per hour, it can take me a few minutes to 10 minutes before I can reply to the verify email.

Because I have around 30 to 40 emails per hour getting in (we are 4 peoples who makes the virtual sample but I am receiving all emails first and distribute them) I need to make sure I do reply to them(the verify one) each time.

Having some sort of MailScanner is the best thing. I have set for the company I work with the the High scoring spam to be sent to an account for that domain name and we never lost an email(we get around 400 email per day just spam for that domain names so it is working great). Low scoring is still delivered just in case and we do see some viagra's email contaning an image, seems we can't block them at all!

Anyway long story to say that I don't and neither fo the three other in the artwork department do like the Boxtrapper thing.

I don't verify, ever. If they want email from me, they can white list me so I don't have to verify. If they don't want to do that, then next instruction they get from me will be how to access their new mail account at hotmail!

I have just started using BoxTrapper, because of all the spam. I do go through the list and whitelist those that I know are not spam to speed up the process. I know that many people are so tired of all of the concern for my "size", for how long I can last, and if I am lonely, and the ones that are making sure that I have seen the latest Britney pic ~ and don't mind getting the email to verify that they are not a spammer.
