Sorry guys hate to keep harping. I have having extensive trouble using FTP on BMW. Earlier Memory was running at 97% Currently it is 87% memory usage.
I am trying to develop a flash site and I cannot get current uploads to show. * This is not a cache problem either. Anyone else? Geez what a week. Mark. |

Are accounts "jailed" on each box - so that one rogue account cannot take down all other accounts?
Multiple accounts on a single box always begs the question of scaleability from a hosting perspective: i.e. what if my site becomes super popular - will I starve the other accounts for CPU, or will my site not scale to accomodate the new visitors because some other account is running a stupid PHP script?

Accounts are not 'jailed'.
If your account starts eating all the cpu/mem because of its popularity it's time to go (semi)dedicated. HG will transfer your account temporarily to a different server so you have some time to decide what to do. If it seems the reason is some bad written script instead, just the script will be disabled and you will get a warning mail. Stef. |

Dear Stef.
Thank you for that wonderfully condensed message. I cannot speak for others on BMW. But I can tell you that none of my 17 accounts are not over bandwidth or more is the pity, so popular to cause a burden. The issue here is that when a customer posts a message saying that there is a problem they are more than likely handed the party line, "It's fine our end" or "It's sorted out now". If there is a rogue script or a site that's stealing bandwidth? Then neither myself or my fellow resellers are in a position to see that problem, you are. This comment: Quote:
Incidentally the poll raised has now 55 votes. http://forums.hostgator.com/showthread.php?t=3701 Another poll asking "How many sites do you host" Recorded 125 people. I would say that's a roughly a third of that number and at the bare rate is around $16,000 worth of clients asking for the same thing. Perhaps this should be addressed. Sincerely Mark. |

Mark,
intrepid asked "what if my site becomes super popular..." and I replied that, in that case (meaning, if you know it's because of 'popularity' and not because of a bad script) it's time to go dedicated. It was not related to your original post. For the poll, I believe there's a post in that thread about what Brent told a customer about planned actions in the near future. There will be a post in the Announcements forum when things get concrete. Stef. |
