Hello,
I see that B2evolution is in the Fantastico is it allowed on this host? hope so just moved my site here with my blog, but having trouble restoring my database. I got the user name just haven't found the DB pass word yet. Is going to be the file or url that I am trying to access? in other words say I am trying to login to my blog the "path" or url would be "httP://mysitename/blog/admin.php" That is url that I would normally login at. so look at that file in my html editor and it should be there? or am I missing some thing. Thanks R. |

your question was a little bit difficult to follow, so i figured you were confused.
if your account and db have been restored, log into your control panel, the mysql area, and add the user and password you want to connect to your database with through your control panel. this part isn't done automatically.

Right, you are on the money,
about the me being confused and the username and password. My problem is that I can't find my DB password. According to the HG knowledge base it is located in the path of my page that is giving me the error, Don't let me confuse you! :-) R. |

Generally the DB password would be included somewhere in the config file for the program. If you check in the backup of the config file you may be able to find the password and then set it up in cPanel under the MySQL options.

or you could just create a new db and import the old one into that, changing the user and password in the config file.
my advice is forget b2 - just set up wordpress and use that instead. |

If in doubt and want to know more then go to www.wordpress.org (which is the main website). www.wordpress.com is if you want to host your WordPress blog with WordPress itself, which is what I do now. |

Hey guys,
word press is good and I haven't seen much difference in the B2 and Wordpress. Ok you got me considering a change, Question what would be the advantage of hosting the WordPress blog my self vs. hosting it a WP? |

normally, the database password for any web application you've been using will be stored in a configuration file. if the database has been restored for you on hg, but the password you have in your old configuration file won't work, then you need to set up the proper username and password in the mysql area of your control panel. fairly self-explanatory if you read that area of the control panel. or you can set up a totally new username/password on your control panel, and add that info to your configuration file, and boom, you're good to go. while wordpress is very nice software, i wouldn't suggest someone switch software because they are having difficulty figuring out the database connection. you'll have even more to figure out with a complete switch and it will hardly simplify your process.

Goddess Dix
Right again! My pass word was in a config file, but some thing or I have screwed up some where. It is still giving me the same error. I agree about not changing software just because of a DB connect error. So I will continue to try and figure out. This is the article I have been looking at http://support.hostgator.com/index.p...barticleid=162 |

if you know what username and password you want to connect with, you have to ADD it manually to your database using the control panel. it doesn't transfer the username and password when you move the database. it's this step you're looking for - Quote:

you go under mysql in your cpanel, mysql databases, scroll down to mysql users, add a user/pass, then take the user you just added and connect it to the database underneath.
remember that in your config file, you will need the whole username and database name. it adds the cpanelusername_ in front of your username for the database. so you add user blogdbuser. say your cpanel signin is myhandle. then your username would be myhandle_blogdbuser the database name will be myhandle_database name. just go in and it should make sense to you.

Some thing I am confused about is the username and password for the DB is it, not the same for the blog itself? right? |

that's right. you might sign on to your blog to post with a username and password, but that will be different that the actual database username and password, which is what your blog uses to connect to the database.

There are actually three steps. You have to create the database, create the user, and then add the user to the database. All are done in the MySQL options of cPanel.

he's up and running now.
fyi, the confusion here was the username cpanel puts on the beginning of the database name and dabase user name when you add a new user. if you're moving from a hosting account that had a different cpanel username, you'll have to adjust your configuration files accordingly.
