If you are not already aware, incoming emails with .eml attachments are bounced from gator5 because the .eml file type is "potentially executable". I would like hostgator to change your exim rules on gator5 (and perhaps more of your servers) to allow .eml files to be attached to incoming email messages please.
The blocking of this type of file is becoming a huge problem, and I am missing out on heaps of important email messages. I understand that certain attachment types are being blocked for the purpose of preventing virus spread, but this particular block is causing lots of problems to people who are forwarding/replying to completely innocent emails. Many email email systems use .eml files to attach messages that are being replied to or forwarded and every time this happens, I miss out on receiving my email! ALSO, sometimes when some mail servers reject emails (for example when a user is over their mailbox quota), they return the email to the sender as a .eml attachment. Now if these return emails are going to be blocked because of this attachment, there will be no way that the sender (me) knows that his/her email has not been received! By the way, eml files are SAFE (according to Microsoft) see this doc: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;262631 I really hope hostgator can reconsider their stance on this blocking. It is really important to me, and I'm guessing that this problem is also striking other users without them being aware of the problem! Looking forward to a reply in the forum. Thanks

xlr9, these forums are run by 2 people, one of which happens to be on vacation. The majority of support here is given by your peers, and instant answers are not always possible. If you require immediate help, try the toll-free number, IM support, Live Chat, or submit an email ticket.
![]() As for your question, you will need to email support@hostgator.com and ask them to allow the .eml extension for you. -Justin |
