I was wondering, what is better about your host than this other one?

This other one offers way more for way less.

ie.
Quote:
Space- 20000MB
Bandwidth- 200GB
EMail- Unlimited
cPanel X9.2- Yes
Scripta- Yes

Monthly- $25
Yearly- $275
Now, for $25 that seems like a better deal than some of your plans.

Also, while were on the topic, i'm up here in canada, and is there any tax on your plans? that ones been bugging me for awhile.

So, if your answer isnt satisfactory, i might just a: use surpasshosting, b: host my site off of my Mac, or c: build another linux server and just pay for a T1 line. So, whats it going to be?

First, the easy one...

There are no taxes added to any of our plans. The price you see is the price you pay.

As for the plan you are showing as comparison, I would have to agree that it would seem to be a better deal. However, there are other variables to consider other than disk space and bandwidth.

-Does the host offer 24/7 tech support via Email, Forums, Instant Message, and Phone?
-What is their typical response time?
-Do they have enough staff to handle all of their accounts?
-Are their current customers satisfied, or are they desperately seeking a more reliable host?
-How is their uptime?
-Do they offer a refund if the fail to maintain the promised uptime?
-Are their any "gotchas" hidden within the TOS/EULA?
-What is their current reputation?

I'll tell you right now that we cannot match the offer you have posted as an example. That package seems to have been developed with "overselling" in mind. Many hosting companies intentionally oversell bandwidth and disk space in an effort to appear more attractive to prospective customers. Hosts offer these seemingly perfect packages knowing full well that most customers only use a fraction of their allotted resources.

Host Gator has developed our hosting packages to provide the best value to our customers without resorting to overselling. We won't sell you what you won't use, and we won’t sell you what you don’t need. If you honestly need 200GB bandwidth, then I would have to say that a shared server solution is probably not the best choice. That kind of traffic really needs a dedicated server.

I would imagine that my response so far has not been what you were hoping to hear, but I'm not going to lie to you. For every honest host out there that tells it like it is, you will find 100 hosts that will promise you the world, without the possibility of being able to deliver said promise. Unfortunately, it is usually the latter companies that wind up in the abyss of failed hosting ventures.

Good luck with your search, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

-Justin

Justin: I have had my own domain for four years and that is probably one of the most honest answers I have ever seen from a webhosting company.

You get what you pay for. Accept in this case if you ever did use that 200 gigs bandwidth you would be kicked from their hosting.

Think of it this way...

We are using servers equal or better then there’s (Dual xeons with 2 gigs ram)

Our dual xeons are usually full when around 400 gigs bandwidth is used. They are selling plans that come with 200 gigs for $25.00 That plan is not possible to support when someone uses it in a shared hosting environment. 99% of the people that signup with them won't use it so the few that do they kick for using to much of the servers ram and cpu. It's not just surpass every host out there that has out of this world plans does it.

When you’re shopping for hosting based on the biggest plan your asking for a ton of downtime. Just ask yourself what you think your site will use, and then shop for the host that would best meet those needs.

The average site uses less then 1 gig bandwidth and less then 50 megs disk space.

We are linux hosting. One of the best tips anyone can ever give you in the hosting field is to call a host before joining.

I'm not sure what surpass's number is.

For the most part if a host is to busy to take calls they are overwhelmed with support issues.

Give us both a call, and then make your decision. =)
