Default Better Spam filtering: ASSP + MailScanner

I, like many people, am very frustrated with SpamAssassin's inability to do anything but the most basic of spam filtering.

There are two products out there that tie in nicely with cPanel that offer much much better spam/virus filtering than spamassassin could ever hope to offer.

1. ASSP - http://assp.sourceforge.net/
Arguably the best filter to stop spam at the SMTP level. It integrates with cPanel with this set of scripts - http://assp.bravehost.com/

2. MailScanner - http://www.mailscanner.info/
A fantastic SPAM filter that again integrates nicely with cPanel - http://www.configserver.com/cp/mailscanner.html

ASSP and MailScanner are both free to use, but the cPanel integration scripts have a small one time fee.

I would love to hear your thoughts on these two solutions.

Thanks

Thank you for your suggestions.

We have have not yet tested ASSP so we will see what we can do about that module. Regarding mailscanner we have used it before and it uses heavy system resources making the servers slow . So currently we do not have plans to implement Mailscanner.

I concure, Mailscanner is a huge system hog and isn't really possible to impliment in the shared environment. However, it can be installed on dedicated boxes and works very well.

Hi,
i think there's a problem in recent cpanel update if its updating parts of exim as SPAM increased in last few days, and after a nightly update couple of days back got it fixed but its again broken.

I also found someone Yelling on cpanel forums on this, which resulted only in another bugzilla entry.

Mail scanner is like a 2 TON load on your CPU.

see ya
