Which is better? Invision Power Board or Vbulletin. Why?

SMF is not an option. Please keep it between IPB and Vbulletin

This board is vbulletin. It costs money and has poor navigation options. It doesn't update whether you have read a message while logged in, etc...

SMF is not mature. I had a couple of boards hacked recently.

I have had the best luck with phpbb. They update frequently and you will find many large commercial sites using their software.

was just a suggestion. I have seen many complain about the amount of security releases phpbb send out, it also caused alot of sites running on my old reseller to become hacked too...

Of the two, I would definitely say vBulletin due to its stability, features, and ability to handle larger forums, but I also recommend Burning Board. I used to use phpBB for one of my sites, but I got sick of having to install security updates so often and of its lack of basic features in the default installation, so I upgraded to vBulletin.

I use vbulletin for about 3 or 4 sites, and I wouldn't use anything else over it. So many reasons I could list. Plugins, broad options, customization, stabability and security, constant updates. They release security patches to fix problems in IE.

Personally I like phpBB for it's ease of use and free-ness. But, if it's going featurewise vB will win it.

You may want to upgrade to 2.1.4. They released this version a couple weeks ago.

Also, vBulletin 3 is optimized for large forums, and there are settings in the control panel that you can use to optimize it further.
