Become Reseller without new domain name

I am interested in becoming a reseller, but I only intend to resell to my personal clients. Because of this I have no need for a reseller domain name.

Is a domain required?

I am not sure of this as well and would like to ask the same thing. If you become a reseller, does it mean that it is like you will resell the whole site including the hosting plus domain?

If you become a reseller you will have access to an admin tool that lets you configure hosting packages and setup any number of accounts.

However, my question is different. I understand that hostgator wants you to have a domain name dedicated to this. So for example I would have myhostingcompany.com and the DNS would point me to some internal hostgator server that gives me access to the admin tool.

I am wondering if it's possible to just direct link to the hostgator admin tool, ie. sharedhost53454.hostgator.com/admin or something along those lines.

This way I could be a reseller and not have to pay for a separate domain name just to be a reseller.

Good Morning,

The primary reason we require that you provide a domain name when signing up is so that we can configure your domain as the primary on the server for your reseller account.

That's used for many things, but likely the most significant reason for most reseller is for private nameservers. Those private nameservers allow you to run your reseller account and configure your clients' DNS while hiding the fact that your hosting on our servers. This has benefits for many reasons.

Ultimately this is your decision whether that's important. I would like to point out however that we don't require that you buy your domain directly with us. While we'd obviously prefer that you buy the domain through us, you're welcome to use any domain you've acquired previously elsewhere. We're more then happy to provide you hosting still!

Thanks Josh,

So let's say I have my business domain as mycompany.com. I am using this domain currently as my company homepage. If I use this domain name in reseller registration process what/if any impact will it have on my domain?

Can I continue to use the domain in its current capacity or do I need to have the domain set aside specifically for providing access to my reseller account?

Just wanted to follow up on this one again.

Can I use an existing domain name for registration even if that domain name is already being used for something unrelated to my reseller account? ie. can I use my company homepage domain name to register for a reseller account?
