Hello,
I'm currently looking at moving a reseller plan from my existing host to HostGator. We recently had an issue with our existing web host where a stylesheet was overwritten (my fault entirely) but because the file was cached, we didn't notice the problem until after the latest backup had included the overwritten file instead of the original file. This meant we had to recreate the stylesheet manually. Our existing host does its backups daily and the previous backup is overwritten each time. We can't guarantee that we'll notice every problem within 24 hours as some of the sites we host are very quiet. In theory it's possible that changes are made just before the daily backup occurs, and any issues would leave us without a backup to restore from. So how does HostGator do its backups? How often do you backup sites and how many backups do you keep? We don't expect backups to be kept forever, but it's quite risky to overwrite them every day. Thanks for your help, Ben |

Last time i checked, they backed up the shared and reseller servers weekly.. and the backups probably overwrite each other.
best to check with sales for a definate answer ![]() btw: you should always take your own backups aswell Last edited by Sam; 08-13-2007 at 08:12 PM. |

Hi,
We backup our shared and reseller servers on a weekly basis- around Sunday of each week, and the previous backup is erased. In addition, cPanel provides an option to make full backups, so I would encourage that you also back up your site with that tool as well, just in case our backups do not have the information you need. |
