Default Backups - Am I doing this correctly?

Hi,
i run a VPS Level 3 with 3 sites incl. databases and mail accounts.

I run different scripts and sometimes something goes wrong. Specially when i try a new script or different settings. To avoid a disaster i need backups.

All i want is a complete backup of all my data. My Sites, databases, emails. Just everything. The backup should be stored on my home computer. When sh*t happens, i restore my old files.

What should i do?
Should i run in cPanel a Full Backup. But i can't restore this on my own. Right?

This means i need a Partial Backup. Download the Home Directory and my databases and then i can use this to restore everything? Or will i miss some files or settings doing it this way?

Please give me some advice how to do it the right way. Thanks

I don't have VPS (I have an unmanaged dedi) but you do have root access on your VPS, right? If so there should be an option to restore a full backup in your root WHM.

Yes, in a VPS you have root access, and in root WHM you can do that.

I have seen in the WebHost Manager the Backup utility. Should i use this? Where is the difference to a cPanel backup?

Using the backup facility in your WHM you can automate the process to backup all the sites in your VPS at the same time. This would include everything.
If you only want to backup one site you can use cPanel and then restore it via WHM if needed.

Fred,
I have a reseller account. I can not see where I can do a backup through WHM. Where should I be looking?
Thanks,

Regular reseller accounts do not have this option in WHM. Only dedicated servers and VPS with cpanel/WHM.
