Hi,
I have read all the various threads/posts regarding backup and I am happy that I understand most of it. There is one thing in the back of my mind that I can't work out. In the Backup Resource thread I think Gwen (?) makes the statement that if you want to not put all your eggs in one basket (spread the risk?) then you should get a Shared Hosting Account. Other then the extra $ - how is this "safer/better"? Do they get backed up more often or are they better protected? If this has been answered in another thread please list the link so I don't have to ask silly questions. Respect. |

"Gwen" is probably me, and I did start the sticky thread about backup resources, but I'm not sure what you mean. Better than what?
I'll look through it and see if we can pinpoint the confusion.

My apologies!
It was in the Blog section. Anyhow - section 8 says: Quote:

So, no questions remain?

Umm - yes!
My "issue" is that it seems to say (to me) that in order for me to be safe/r then I should get a reseller account. So how/why is a reseller account better then a standard shared hosting account? |

The one advantage to non-resellers of a reseller account is the ability to have different cPanels, which would allow security certificates on different domains (to get a certificate, you need a dedicated IP, which can be assigned ONLY to the main domain on the cPanel account, not addons).

Reseller account Gives you seperate control panels (cpanel) for each domain you host.
Shared account can however let you host multiple domains but there will be only one cpanel and it it gets in problem all your sites could be affected. |

Thanks - I do understand what reseller hosting is.
That was not my query (and it is a minor thing at the end of the day). The quoted statement in the Blog still seems to suggest (to my inexperienced mind) that to be safer then one should have a reseller account so my query was simply "why". It mentions the C Class IP stuff as an afterthought. Like I say - it is not a problem - I was just curious as to what was being said. Even re-reading it again - it certainly sounds like "you will be safer [from security or other failures] if you spring for a reseller account". I think I understand what they intended to say now and thanks for all the comments!

IF you are planning on having multiple domains....it is safer to have a reseller account so that in case something happens to one domain and it gets suspended, you do not have problems with your other domains.
If you are only planning on having one domain, then there is nothing a reseller account will do that you wont have on a regular shared account. |

Thanks for that Skeetr - I thought as much - that clarifies it 100%.
