Hi,
Is there anywhere we can turn on in Cpanel to perform daily backup of our website/mySQL databases? Am quite worried that accidents will result in total lost of customer databases. I tired cron jobs but it seems that my cron jobs stop running after a while. even if i set to run daily. I only get the email on the first day and none on the following days. |

There is no function in cPanel that will backup your site automatically.. you would need to find a script that would do it and then run it on a cron.

I've used a program in the past called dbsender.php that will create the backup and send it to an email address. It worked pretty well to backup databases.

This works PERFECTLY for me at work with 60+ domains. Let me know if you need help configuring it.

This is how I do it...
http://www.vbclassified.com/showthread.php?t=241 This uses the CRON tab so I have daily backups going back 1-week and then I have an archive folder with an archive copy for twice a month. For my critical business databases, I do three backups a day each saved with a different name (db-early, db-day, db-evening). If you ever have a database crash, you will really regret not having taken the few minutes it takes to learn how to do this and with the CRON it is so darned easy! |

Quarterbore,
Does mySQL have transaction logs that can be copied? It seems that your really pounding the servers doing full database backups during the day. It just seems that a fullback during the day would bog down the server when folks are trying to use the site. Of course it depends on database size and so on. |
