I'm new to cpanel. When creating accounts, do you allow space for the customer to backup? Also how much space for log files and all that other stuff - If the content is 5mb how much space will they need on the account ?

http://forum.hostgator.com/viewtopic...a1298ff6c00192 Read the third post to answer the back up question. Basicly, the entire harddrive is backed up, which includes all accounts, etc. As for the other problem, I'm not sure if Cpanel takes up space. I don't think it does. I've only played around with CPanel on my computer a bit. I can't do anything like install it becuase I'm not going to pay 1200$ for a licence just to play with it (one expensive toy that is). Anyway, as far as I could tell, CPanel is installed in a seperate folder, and does not take up space in the user's directory. An account is created for each person, and each person accesses the same CPanel with a different account username for that server. With that, the only thing I could see taking up space would be logs. But those might not even be counted as files which take up space.

I was looking at a feature on the cpanel that said 'backup' - didn't look far enough - now I see its for something else, not sure what the purpose is yet.
I still wonder how much space you allow when you create the hosting packages for stuff like logs, email, etc - it seems like there is more going on in a web folder than just web pages..... |

Here's what my guess would be.
Stuff like e-mail, and anything you have in the Public_html directory will be counted for space. However, logs and what not, that are automaticaly generated by the panel would be stored in a seperate folder. A folder away from the /home directory. Then again, the file is less then 10 megs so if it is in your /home directory, it's not too big of a deal. Unless you only allow you user 10 megs of space. Disk Usage 1.03 MB This here is the file usage of the demo account. Seeing as how no public access to the FTP has been granted, I would say it's safe to assume at least some space is taken up for logs and what not.

I was just wondering how other resellers decide on what size to make their products - since space and transfer are the real estate that is getting subdivided.
I've seen strange things in the past -- Front Page seems to make a copy of the files and put them in a vti folder, some hosts have a way to keep bottmless log files on your account - and what about the email bin - Do you add 10mb for each emaildress allowed? etc etc |
