Question Back-ups

Do your back ups cause the servers to slow at all?

My current host has back-ups running every morning and it causes my sites to slow and frequently time out. (i think my sites are quite sensitive anyway, but i don't think they are intensive.)

Freely admit the fact they do back ups is a good thing. But it is affecting my memberbase, and peeing a few people off.

I run a few forums and sites, and am looking to purchase a reseller account. Judging by the amounts of space and bandwidth you offer, I won't be using the full quota, but it will allow me plenty of space for growth.
Currently use 10gig of bandwidth (that is increasing steadily every month)
and 1 gig space (always being added to)

All backup systems will cause some load on a server, so there's some impact on our servers too. Backups are scheduled in the weekend since there's less load in general on the servers at that time.

I have never seen a backup on my server (saturn) time out a webpage. Hostgator is great with keeping servers running well. If there is a problem speed wise you can always call or request live chat and let them know, they have always taken care of this issue when it does happen, it has only happened one time in 6 months for me. That was not even backup related.

I backup my account all the time, and it does not even slow down my website.

Thank you for responding.

I do expect back ups to slow things. But i don't think they should cause time-outs.

You will not experience time-outs during backup.
