Default Baby plan questions..

I'm thinking about getting a baby plan hosting account with hostgator. I know that you are allowed to host unlimited domains which is great because I think I will need to use about 10 - 20 and maybe even more in the future. However possibly only 5 out of all sites will generate quite a bit of traffic..

For example, I have my maindomain.com for my account and my own main site - then use 'addon domain' to begin to host all my other 10+ domain names and install wordpress meaning that I have 10+ wordpress powered sites.

I have read where people ask if it is ok to run more than one instance of wordpress and the answer is yes - but I will need to be running 1 wordpress site on each of the 10+ addon domains.. Will this become too much of a stress for shared hosting package??

If the answer is no, how can I be sure that my hosting doesn't take up too much of Hostgators resources and have my account terminated? As I don't want to put in hard work then everything disappears...

Maybe this is just me thinking the impossible, thanks in advance for any help.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to inquire about this. Unfortunately as there are so many involved variables it's difficult to say for certain how the sites will function in terms of resource usage. Typically hosting the number of Wordpress sites you've mentioned is not an issue with Shared hosting, however again, not knowing the specifics about how those sites are configured it's hard to say with absolute certainty. Some of these variables for example include the themes, plugins, how much javascript may be used and so on.

We do certainly offer a 45 day money back guarantee if you'd like to give us a try. That's no questions asked if you decide to not keep the sites hosted from the baby account.

In terms of how resource usage is handled on a shared environment, we would not just terminate your account if it's found to be causing any issues on the server. On the off chance an issue should arise, we mitigate the issue, then contact you to work towards a resolution, so we can get your sites back up online as quickly as possible. I can definitely assure you though that we do not just terminate accounts due to resource issues. We understand problems can occur and as such will work with you to make things right again.

Please let us know if you have any futher questions, I'll be happy to assist you or offer further clarification if need be!

Thank you for your interest in our company!

Good Evening,

I'd like to actually address a common misconception regarding VPS hosting plans. While a VPS at first glance looks like a good solution to a resource intensive set of accounts, unfortunately this is not always the case. While it's true on shared environments that there are limitations on the CPU usage to prevent abuse by users, there is still generally far more power available on the shared servers. Which is not to say the VPS's don't have their uses. The VPS's are definitely great for many situations/projects, though in terms of sheer power, the shared servers do have more available on a whole.

Generally though I recommend starting with a shared environment, which are quite robust in terms of performance if you're unsure of your needs up front. It's very easy to upgrade to a different hosting solution should you find out that a shared environment is not the location for your sites. We actually offer free transfers on upgrades too, which makes it even simpler to transition during upgrades.

Should anyone have further questions beyond this or would like recommendations for hosting needs, please feel free to send me a PM. I'd be happy to assist you with finding an appropriate solution.

Best Regards,
