Default Availibility of the Service

Hi,
I found Hostgator from http://www.webhostdir.com/spotlight/reseller.asp. Its web site at least seems more professional than other reseller sellers.

I have gone thru several reseller hosting firms. I'm very upset because of their service. Our mysql backed sites are down 3-4 times a week and every time the cause is "One of our customer's script has caused bla bla and we restarted the server. It's working fine now. Thank you!". When you try to talk further their response "You know this is a reseller service so lots of customers are using php/mysql scripts. Bla Bla..." Translation use it or leave it! Web servers may go down but they should not do it periodically!

Anyway, at this point I want to buy a reseller service and do not want to change it for a long time. What is the maximum domains per server ratio not the maximum number of resellers per server one? Have you ever gone down because of some client's LAMP script?

I'm open to suggestions from other clients using Hostgator as well as Hostgator's own technicians.

Regards

I'm guessing they could fit around 30 resellers per server depending on the plan. They may cut it at some point though, I don't know. I've been with them for awhile now and I can't be happier. Sometimes we get minor problems, sometimes bigger problems, but it's to be expected is such a large hosting business. I've never seen any repeating problems. Usually they solve any problems in under an hour with a trouble ticket. And, could you give me some detail on what a LAMP script is?

I have been with HG for over a year. I came from a host that oversold. They are now belly up. The server that I am on utilizes about 30% of its capacity in general. The home directory is at about 32% and at any given time the memory usage is around 35%. The CPU load is generally low, around 1.00 with a dual cpu server. Response is generally very good. I have never had less than the 99% service that they advertise. My site is monitored by SiteUptime, a free service with only a 30 minute resolution. I can only recall my pages going down three times. Two of those were scheduled. They are very strict here regarding offending scripts. If someones sites cause everyone else problems, they will be secured. Sometimes it seems harsh but their servers are reliable.

This is only the third host I have been with, the other two couldn't hold a candle to HG. I did a lot of shopping before settling on HG. It was a good choice.

Jeff

Thank you all for detailed replies.

I have a number of domains and have been using a number of well known open source scripts like mambo which has cache and gzip turned on! The problems were not because of my scripts and believe me i dont have much traffic.

I have been a reseller with HG for over 6 months now. Very few probelms, a quick server, very minimal downtime, and fast support. What more do you need?

I have tried a few different scripts like Mamboserver and vBulletin with no problems.
