Default Auto Lock Old Threads

My suggestion would be that threads, that have not had a reply made to them for a certain length of time, should be auto locked.

This would stop the thread necrophilia that seems to be creeping into the forum.

I am not saying that threads should be deleted, just locked

Agreed. We currently lock ours at 60 days after the last post.

Really, there's nothing that stinks more on a forum than reopening old wounds. Start a new thread.

An idea that came up a couple of years ago--and may have even been implemented for a brief period until an update--was the "you are posting in a thread that is a zillion years old. Are you sure...?"

I agree that there's been a recent spate, and that it's not a good development. But, IMO, the worst problems are in the public categories and there are different issues with old posts in the private categories.

Keith, do you think autolocking just the public categories would solve most of the problems?

I am not sure Gwyneth, thread necrophilia seems to be appearing all over the forum these days.

Maybe the public forums would be a good place to start

Tho look at the bright side, that means people are doing searches before posting a new topic, that's a good thing.

I agree that it is good that folks are searching but the old threads also seem to be the ones most used by spammers to reopen with their "This is great, check out this link" type messages.
