My cPanel shows that the Apache version is 1.3.41, whereas the latest version available is 2.2.9. When are we getting the upgrade?

Hm...
What benefits do 2.2.9 have over 1.3.41?

Apache 1.x and Apache 2.x are very, very different. Doing the upgrade isn't an easy task and it's not necessary to have it at this point unless you need it for a specific reason. I would assume that the changeover on it wouldn't even be started until the php5/mysql5 migrations are done.

The latest 1.3-version is 1.3.41, so that is the latest. It's a bit like with Windows versions, if you are running XP you don't necessarily need to upgrade to Vista...

As always, Matt and quietFinn have more than covered things, but I'd add that if you're running something on a shared environment that NEEDS 2.x you probably need your own server.

Hi Plank...
I'm showing you list as a "baby croc" account holder. Our shared and reseller servers are currently running Apache 1.x series (1.3.41, I believe). We have elected not to upgrade to apache 2.x at this time, although such an upgrade is planned for the future. Upgrading to apache 2.x takes a bit of time and tlc, and we're not intending to start that until the php/sql migrations are complete, and any issues that arose from that have been resolved. We don't have a timetable on upgrading to Apache 2, just yet, but it is in discussion by the upper tier administrators. As Gwyneth suggested, Apache 2.x and 2.2.x are available on our dedicated servers. |

Thanks for the replies.
Although, I don't know why you say that the latter wouldn't work! |

We will be upgrading to Apache 2.x down the road sometime. There are a couple of things on our long term list before we can do this...
A couple of things we are working on are.. PHP5/SQL5 Migrations. (Currently being done) CentOS 4.x to 5.x migrations (Coded and ready to pretty much go) There are also the shorter tasks like Kernel and package updates we need to consider. We try our best to not cause any problems with our clients during these upgrades. We've had to slow down the Reseller PHP5/SQL5 migrations due to clients using highly outdated versions of things like OSCommerce, and a couple of other scripts. We have code to automatically patch recent versions if they have issues with PHP5 or SQL5, but some of the old versions just don't work. We are trying our best here, the only slow down with upgrades is the support requests, even though the upgrades are pretty much flawless. |

This statement forms a practically perfect existential argument.
