Default Apache: cannot allocate memory: apr_thread_create: unable to create worker thread

Trying to figure out how to fix this. Free memory is fine (400megs or so), however checking /proc/user_beancounters shows we're hitting the limit on privvmpages.

Seems common with apache2 when not using mpm_prefork module, however that doesn't seem to be installed and I'm not finding it in yum. I suppose I could install a custom rolled apache2 however that would break the ability to 'tweak' it via cpanel I think?

I didn't find this error via searching here, I find it weird that nobody else experiences this. Perhaps there's a simple tweak that can be made somewhere?

tia for any help on this.

You are more than likely hitting some limit we have set for your account. I would suggest submitting a ticket with this error so our administrators can look into the error.

It's hitting the limit on privvmpages (1000000). Haven't had a failure since I backed down MaxRequestsPerChild, someone had set that to 10000 I backed that down to a more reasonable 100 on the theory that maybe there's a thread leak causing the problem.

The trouble with trying to enter a support ticket is that the owner of the account isn't technical (I'm handling that for him). So we end up playing 'telephone' because I can't submit a request on behalf of him.

Is it even allowed to adjust the privvmpages limit? I know it's possible, but I don't know the reason for the default.

All you need to do is have the owner call up and set a password on the account or add your email address to the account so that you can have support.
