Hi, new to the forum and Host Gator.
I have a reseller account and just have one site running now, which is a CMS. I do have quite a few othe CMS sites with another host. My site here runs very slow, I contacted support and after going back and forth, found apache was not set up right. They fixed that, but the site is still slow. There is no load, only me updating. I hate to move the whole thing, that's no fun, and wanted to see first if anyone else had issues or suggestions. Thanks in advance. |

I'm running several Drupal sites -- they're all running perfectly. No problems. Todd www.opensolutionspartners.com

I am running a couple of Textpattern sites. I tested Drupal, Mambo and a few others. They all seem to be fine on the server, but in all honesty none of the sites seem ever (CMS or just plain old html) to run all that fast. There seems to be a delay often, as if the server is sleeping and then it is fine when it wakes up.
I thought about switching to another host but without extensive testing I would not feel comfortable moving my clients over. Hostgator does run quite well overall! |

I have used CMSs through 3 different hosting companies on shared hosting. The delay when you first access the site is like that on all of them, I think it is caused by the script being loaded into RAM from the HDD, once it is in RAM it is much more responsive.

We run several sites with CMS (pn) - no problem! But as previous poster mentioned, yes there is a bit delay in first access - this is happening also with oscommerce... I think this is natural...

Asher,
The actual delay you're referring to (upon initial load) is the DNS first being looked up. Almost any site you attempt to visit for the first time will incur these delays. After the first load though it'll load quickly.

Well hi everyone, this is my first post here so I might as well say hey.
I've been using Joomla for quite some time with my sites. 24fans.net is the one I'm currently using Joomla with and it's worked great. It really makes keeping track of stories, etc. a breeze. Before using Joomla I used Mambo, which is of course pretty much basically the same thing for now. |

Joomla works great and fast enough for me too!
Compared to other hosts, HGs server are by far the fastest.

Hi Forum.
We have no problems running CMS systems. Currently we have 2 under SohoLaunch, 2 under Mambo, 1 under Joomla. We also run a few Open Realty and OsCommerce packages with no problems. Oh yeah, we got a big fat Moodle out there too, also no worries at all. The only problem I ever had was last december when the ADODB database abstraction layer was updated but the developers forgot to tell anybody ;-) cheers

I run a home-made CMS system that works fine for me, it's probably either DNS updating like GatorDave said, or it could be an error in the script. What CMS are you using?

While I was running Joomla on my main site it bogged the server down so much I had to have it upgraded with more memory. At least that's what they eventually did. Whether that was the 'fix' or something else I will never know. I eventually got tired of the server crashing and the memory overload, unistalled all but one of my Joomla sites and washed my hands of CMS.
So my experience of running a Joomla site was exceptionally disappointing. Whether it was a combination of components I had running, or server issues is moot, now. But I suppose Joomla could have been the issue, and not the dedicated server I ran it on. *shrug* |

I run several Joomla sites and they work much better here than at my previous host. There are also some things that you can do to speed up your Joomla or even Mambo site.
If you would like to test the speed of your site you can do so at the following link: http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ Remember that the target goal for your site is 8 seconds or less for a 56k Modem.

This is most likely a simple premissions problem, did you modify your CHMOD properties inccorrectly on public_html? I do believe the max on these servers is 755 (this is what I have my sites set at)

Not to start a big debate here, but just an opinion. I am looking at doing my first CMS so the client can do their own news and content updates. I will add the CMS into my own layout and the CMS system is just going to be embedded into the pages in their main body area.
In any case what do you guys think the best CMS for this is on HG. So far I am looking at Drupal....
