I would like to set up a site that offers free websites (with ads). Something like geocities; homestead.
I came across a software called homefree http://solutionscripts.com/vault/hom...pro/index.html I am having trouble getting it to work and some of the links on the website are broken. I was wondering if any of you know of a good program I can install on my site to allow multiple users a free site they build via a web based editor. One that allows me the ability to put ads someplace on the site. if anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks Eddie |

Well did I say something wrong? Or does no one know of a program that will allow people to log in to your site and build thier own site.I have tried to search the web but everything I type in pulls up web hosting sites rather than some sort of site manager. Any help would be great. Eddie |

I don't know of a product that would do that, but I also don't really care. There are so many big sites doing that now so well that I see no profit in it.

I think you are right there are a lot of companies doing just this. I am not really looking to make a profit. I mean everyone wants to make a profit, but I figure if I offer something free like a small site and a way to update it which is user-friendly than that would keep people coming back to my site and hopefully if they did out grow the site they would purchase thier upgrade from me. Or if they were not interested in a larger site is someone asked them where they got thier free site it would open up a way for me to get some advertising. Also (and this is a lot of figuring which can all be for not) I fugure I could make a little by the advertising I place on the sites.
I don't know I am just trying to think of something different. Thanks Serra Eddie |

Different is good, but the whole idea of free sites is fairly dangerous. Just to police the content is a full time job. Its like all of these myspace clones. None of them are doing as well as myspace. Its already been done, there isn't room for two or three of them. Plus look at all of the trouble myspace is having.
It just seems like a big investment of time and energy with no clear profit. |

just remember that free sites will put a lot of pressure on you. The "bad guys" are always arround looking for a hosting place were they can register anonymously and do their stuff (send spam, use has a proxy, peer to peer networks). So if you think of having free sites try to avoid having completely anonymous customers and keep an dailly eye on what your clients are doing.

In addition, the TOS states that resellers are responsible for all client's actions, which means a reseller account could be suspended for a free site that has "child porn". This would effect ALL of the free sites in that account. You can bet that the child porn people are just waiting for more "Free" sites to post on...

I had not thought completely through the process. The last thing I want to do is create more work and open an opportunity for bad or even illeagal action from my site. You two have brought out some serious stuff for me to think about.
Thanks for the wisdom! |
