My domain is hosted here at hostgator and it's not going anywhere. However I'm not crazy about the prices my domain registrar is charging for renewals. Maybe I'm out of touch, but $35 for 1 yr, $70 for 2 seems high to me! I have looked at godaddy which appears much less!
Are there any other registrars I should look at? Will I have a problem transferring registration from my registrar to godaddy? Will there be any associated downtime in access to my domain here at hostgator? |

Eh they are all really the same. I have a moral objection to godaddy for variouls reasons, but they are all together OK.
And no, no downtime. Look to pay less the $10 a year. |

Thanks...I knew I needed to shop around when godaddy is $8 and I was going to be charged $35! I'll go start clicking through some registrar lists.

I Love HostGator for Hosting, but I still prefer Yahoo! for domain name registrations coz I really had a wonderful experience with them. I have 9 domains with them and I forgot to renew my other domain and my ccard wasnt working at that time. Instead of just deleting my domain, they contacted me and told me to have it settled within ONE MONTH. That was a lot of time for me. Well I just thought you needed to know.

Godaddy is the way to go. I've been with them for 5 years no problems ever. And I don't know of anyone who is less expensive.
If you decide to go with Network Solutions make sure you are never so much as one day late on your renewals. They charge $150 to reinstate your domain during the 30 day holding period. You either pay up or buy your name back from the auction block at the end of the 30 day period. The Mule |

thanks everyone! it looks to be a tossup between godaddy and namecheap...but I think I am going with namecheap. There's only $0.89 difference, but namecheap currently gives free whois privacy to every domain while godaddy only gives it free if registering 3 or more domains. at least, if I am reading their websites correctly! and I only have one...
I got my authorization code from my current registrar last night and I "unlocked" it so I am waiting for that to propagate into whois databases today and then I will initiate my transfer. thanks again for the suggestions! |
