I'm developing an e commerce site for the first time. I'm considering
using one of the 3 open source packages I see available on hostgator (Interchange, Agora, osCommerce.) osCommerce seemed to have many useful features, so I've downloaded it and am playing with it locally. Before I get too deep into this: 1 - Any recommendations on any if these - especially with regard to setting them up on hostgator? 2 - I see a setup for Agora Shopping Cart in the cPanel, but not for the others. Maybe for osCommerce, I'll just need to download the database and the php & html files? Has anyone been through his process & know of any major issues? Thanks! |

It's either interchange or oscommerce that says cpanels automatic install is rubbish. Can't remember at the moment which of the 2 say it. So if you go with one of those make sure to install it manually.
With saying that the only one ive tested out personally was agora, and it was very user friendly. So I reccomend agora.

Just to complete the topic:
I did use osCommerce. I'm doing most of my debug locally, then uploading the files & database to my site on hostgator. So far, it is working well. Later, I found where the one button install for osCommerce is located in the cPanel. It is in the Scripts Library. Maybe next time I'll try it. |
